If you're headed to Glacier this will be about a 30-40 minute side trip depending how long you spend in the small museum at the dam, which has some interesting displays and history montages, if you like that sort of thing. The views are stunning...More

Just a short hop off US-2 on the way to West Glacier entrance of Glacier National Park is the 7th tallest dam in the U.S. The 4 mile ascent is a stunner in itself even with evidence of prior fire. There is a visitor center...More

As someone who suffers from acrophobia which occasionally results in bouts of vertigo, I was a bit fearful of visiting the Hungry Horse dam below the reservoir. I needn't have worried. Even though the dam is quite high, the railing is tall and I was...More

We had a prearranged tour for large group.. We had our two guides split the group into two so we could ask and hear the answer better. They were very accommodating to people with some difficulties in walking. Good pictures of the reservoir from the...More

Off US 2 you don’t want to miss the hungry horse reservoir. We came late September so the visitors center was closed. But that was okay. They had an informative sign to learn about the dam. We also walked across the dam rather than drive...More

Drove up to the dam to see what was there. Not too much in the way of activities and you're pretty much on your own. However, I did enjoy the scenery.

Lovely lake and dam. The dam appears as a surprise in a beautiful deep gorge. Excellent opportunity for boating, kayaking, camping, fishing, hike. Bears in the area so be careful hiking. Lovely views.

This was a beautiful stop. The visitors center offered a lot of good information about the dam construction as well as information about the surrounding area. We walked across the dam, and though it was smoky, the reservoir was beautiful. This is a highly recommended...More

So many people we ran into, who were from Montana, recommended we go to the dam. It was a nice walk across and the views were awesome.

Yes you can fish the area, suppose to be great fishing, as far as I know you will need a Montana fishing license. Check the Montana Fish and Game Web Site for more info.
