The Gallatin canyon provides a nice scenic drive along the route from Bozeman to Big Sky, Montana and beyond. The canyon winds along the Gallatin River through coniferous forrests for the entire 41 mile trip to Big Sky. Up in Big Sky you can have...More

We extended a trip into southern Montana a day because I had heard this canyon was a gorgeous drive. It wasn't ugly or anything, but with our eyes so used to Glacier, Grand Tetons, Arches, Bryce and Zion National Parks, it just seemed only so-so.

We drove from Bozeman to West Yellowstone specifically to see the Canyon and it didn't disappoint. A book, Roadside Geology of Yellowstone Country, described what we saw and suggested good stopping points to get a closer look. Outside of national parks, it is OK to...More

A drive through the canyon offers the eyes an overload of beauty. Mountain stream, beautiful mountains, wild life, and peacefulness. A great drive if you're heading to Yellowstone from Bozeman.

Took this route on the way to Yellowstone from the Bozeman Airport. Beautiful scenery along the way even with the Wildfires encroaching from the South (Sept 2018). Several hiking trails and resorts (Big Sky) are located along the highway. I believe "A River Runs Through...More

The drive through the canyon is absolutely beautiful. You cross the river several times. The afternoon sun made the rapids shine. Fly fisherman every turnout. I wish we had time to explore.

One of the most beautiful roads and places I have ever been to. The Gallatin River dancing with Hwy 191, doesn't matter if it'sa day or night, if it's raining or hot, I will never forget that place.

Gallatin Canyon covers a wide area. Most people drive down MT HWY 191 & just view Gallatin Canyon on their drive to Big Sky (to ski) or West Yellowstone. But, there is a lot to do/explore on the side roads/hikes in the canyon. It is...More

We were looking for something to do outdoors near Bozeman and saw this recommendation and decided to try. One thing I want to say is that this is a beautiful drive, but it isn't a dedicated canyon, like a park you pull into and drive...More

In the summer this is wonderful for family outings. Miles to romp. Safe, incredible vistas, bring a picnic, camera, water & the joy of no TV, just silence in nature.
