The NT site could do with adding information boards with an explanation. We thought it pointless.... we only called there on passing so hadn’t read up, thinking that info would be available. Nothing other than the sign at the bottom.

I know that it was mainly destroyed by Oliver and his buddies, but the Victorians didn't help matters by trying to recreate its base with a few huge stones. Yes it gives and idea of the floorplan of the castle - or does it? we...More

There's very little to look at left of Duffield Castle, but the place has a wonderful history that is worth looking in to. It's not the easiest of places to find, and the steps are quite steep when you eventually locate it. Don't go unless...More

A prior review states that it is advisable to read up on Duffield Castle before you visit and this is excellent advice, for there really is not that much to see and it does require you to implement a degree of imagination, along with the...More

There's not a whole lot to see here, a raised platform with some very low walls (a stone or two high). However... If you're local and you know what you're looking at (do some research first) it's well worth a visit. You do get some...More

I have lived near here for most of my life and it has only recently become well known. Nice for a quiet few moments but the castle itself is long gone. Destroyed by Henry III at the same time as Tutbury. Read up on it,and...More

You climb all the steps to the top of the mound to see what - hardly anything really. For somewhere that claims to have been important, there is hardly anything to see, no walls or anything.

The title says it all, not that much to see of the remains of the Castle, no information board telling you anything about the site (apart from at entrance to steps leading up to site).

We went to see Duffield Castle as it had been billed as one of England's largest 13th century castles and was illustrated by a photograph of rose covered arches with a tower in the background. Unfortunately, it was very different in reality. We struggled to...More
