The blues, the whole blues and nothing but the blues. Leave your pinky ring on but don't wave it around.

This place was part of our blues field trip and interesting to read about it. Don’t know if it is still open or not but a great place to check out.

As might be deciphered from earlier posts, Po' Monkey's is (or was) a quintessential Delta blues juke joint that shuttered after its owner passed away about a year ago. We heard stories and rumors about plans to reopen it, but we have no idea if those are simply wishful designs. But -- it's still worth the detour out of Merigold just to see it; it's a great history and photography subject and, just by looking at it and the surrounding pancake-flat Delta farm fields, you get a good sense of what it must have been like to hang out at the rural juke joint on a hot Mississippi Saturday night. Let's hope for a reopening, and soon.

Po Monkey joined us at our table and seemed to really like the Black Seal Rum we brought. He sells beer & set-ups. He stayed with us most of the night except when he ran off to change into funny costumes. The dancing was great and we loved every minute. Finally had to leave about 1 am. Going back this year - 2016! See y'all there!

I spent many great evenings here as a guest of Willie Seaberry--who sadly passed away recently. Not sure what the long-term outlook is, but it's hard to imagine it surviving much longer without him. Willie was Po' Monkey, and Po' Monkey's.

My daughter and I went to Po Monkey's in 2011.This is a juke joint playing delta blues by a DJ. You will not find it without directions. We had to ask the owner of Abe's BBQ in Clarksdale how to get there. His hand written directions on the back of napkin was our GPS for this shack at the edge of a cornfield. Don't expect signs to point you there. Heck, don't even expect signs with road names. It opens around 8 and gets going good at about 9-10. There was a $5 cover charge. Give the lady at the door a $20 and tell her to keep it. It will be worth double that. The place is a tiny two room shack that has a ceiling so low in the middle that you have to bend down to get from one side to the other. If it is hot outside, it will be hot inside Po Monkeys. The tables are covered in sticky shelf liner that is peeling. The chairs range from school cafeteria rejects to bench seats from an old pickup truck. A whole army of stuffed and dusty monkeys intertwined with Christmas lights cover the ceiling. This isn't meant to be retro cool decor. This is years of careful collecting by Po Monkey himself. He also answers to the name of Willie Seaberry. Mr. Seaberry made us feel more welcome than we have ever felt anyplace in my life. I felt like he was sincerely glad we came. We stayed 4 hours and loved every minute of it.

One comment said: Don't expect liquor...but then referred to having beer! Do they mean dont expect hard liquor????? Is wine available? Is Thursday the only day that it's open? Is it closed other days? Only at night?

I got there around 9 and everything was in full swing. You could go probably as early as 8. It seems like things shut down around 1.

Is it possible to visit Po Monkeys and stay in Clarksdale? Or Greenwood?
Thanks

Yes, I would recommend staying in Clarksdale, it's closer. I stayed at Blues Hound Flat had a great time. It's located downtown, so you can walk around and not have to drive to Delta Blues Museum and Ground Zero Blues Club. But you will have to drive to Po' Monkeys. I think it's about 30-40 minutes from downtown Clarksdale.
