We were in Medellin one evening and climbed up to the castle. Unfortunately, it was just closing (we had not checked their web-site), so we had to 'make-do' with the views from the castle walls which were simply spectacular.

Looking across from my hotel, the castle looks impressive, but the reality is that there isn't a lot to see inside other than a few exhibits and builders rubble and equipment. The entry fee is inexpensive, so it's worth paying if only for the views.

We were the only people in the place and had to wait until a lady walked up the steep steps from the town to open the gate .... great to soak up the atmosphere. Great views over the old church and Roman amphitheatre too...

For 2€ you can enter the castle walls and walk around the walls, courtyards, and towers. Hours: When we visited (August) the hours were 11-1:30 & the 6-9pm. Siesta (closed) from 1:30-6 & closed on Monday. Positive: The views of the river, bridge, surrounding fields...More
