Quiet and empty. Great time looking for stones in the shingle. My daughter found some lovely ones. Probably not the best beach for swimming though, more better for a brisk constitutional.

Having had an abortive attempt to get into the castle with our dog - shame on you EH - we went for a walk along the beach instead. What a treat; it was like going back in time. Charming.

Grab a brew from the kiosk and sit yourself down and do the nation's favourite.... Stone balancing. The record is 7. Constant laughter of children throwing stones into the sea.

This goes very nice with the castle and the gardens, i.e visit all in one go. Very clean, sandy and lovely view. Not ruined by young naughty couples, genuine people walking across, very polite and a enjoyable and pleasant experience.

Miles of beach with views across the channel to France. Very unspoilt with easy access path and separate cycle path running alongside.

My husband fishes off the beach . government want to bring in a licence but haven't yet.so go ahead and fish!.
