We loved the great views from the top of the Tower of history. There are both indoor and outdoor observation areas. The indoor area includes panoramic maps and descriptions of what you’re looking at. There were also great informational displays about the history of the area. We had taken the Soo Locks boat tour the day before and it was fun to find things we had seen from the water.

Your ticket is good for the entire day and we took advantage of going up a second time later in the day. We also toured the Museum Ship Valley Camp and were able to get a discounted rate by visiting both.

I had been here many years ago but I didn't remember much about it. The main floor is full of many artifacts and pictures/drawings covering many topics. Take the time to read the information to get a good understanding of the importance of the Soo and the Soo Locks. Its the very first settlement in what now is Michigan. There is a elevator that will take you up into the tower and outside viewing decks. Spectacular! You can see 360 degrees. There are plaques that tell you what structures you are looking at. If you time your visit right you can see fighters going through the locks.

To me, this object looks more like “after military” one with its very rough elevation.
When you rich the top, you will be amazed by beautiful view of the city, the canal, Soo Locks, St. Marys River and Canadian shore.
I was there in October, during changing the colors, so the view was even more amazing.
Before we get to the top, we saw 15 minute movie about the history of region.
Even on the top you can learn a lot about the city, how it was growing because of the Locks.
There are two levels on the top of tower. You can stay inside or go out having view almost in all directions.
If you are in the city, don’t miss the Tower.
It’s not free, but it’s worth to pay and visit.

We enjoyed this stop. Spent about 45 minutes in total. Small exhibits with local history and architectural origins of the tower. Elevator to aerial views of the city and International Bridge with clear explanations of what your viewing and the significance of each. Stairs to other viewing decks. Very friendly staff.

So cool. Outrageous really that the Catholic Church built this as a shrine but great that it’s ended up as an observation tower for the city! It the tallest structure around and the views are fabulous. Friendly guy on the ticket desk. Best public restrooms you’ll find anywhere! Buy the three museum ticket and get to visit the Tower, the Museum Ship Valley Camp and the River of History museum and save a few dollars. All are worth visiting.

Gorgeous views of the surrounding areas. I recommend stopping here if you are in the area. You can spend as little or as much time as you like taking in the views from the observation decks. The gentleman working was friendly and helpful.

If the weather is nice the view is awesome. The short video is a good introduction to the whole area. Be sure to read the history of the tower because it was actually began as a project of the church next door.

Pros:
1) The tower has a very nice view of the area
2) The staff were gracious enough to allow us to bring our bikes inside as it was raining outside so they are very thoughtful

Cons:
1) Cost money (and there really wasn't anything worth viewing inside, just the view outside)
2) "tower of History" is a bit of a misnomer as it does not provide much insight for the history of the area other than a few plaques & displays and a poorly created film
3) It is not well maintained.

Thank you for visiting! Yes we do have some pretty good staff working with us. Since your visit we have done some painting in our interior levels, I will address needing to add more to the history part of the Tower with our curator and office staff.

We wanted to experience this and figured well of course an elevator is handicap accessible. Nope. There are steps to get to the elevator? So it was a no go. Might want to consider putting in a ramp area. Only makes sense to me.

We are sorry that we are not able to be fully handicap accessible at the Tower of History. Do to the original construction of the property it does not allow us to add in a handicap ramp system.

We've been to Sault Ste. Maire a number of times and this was our first time at the Tower. This is probably only something you would want to do once but we enjoyed it. They have an elevator to the top and a few other things to look at other than the view. At the most you will probably spend an hour here.
