- Paul L1 contributionAmazing experience and great service, good value! We had a great time out on the boat seeing pictured rocks and the island today. We had the 6 hour rental and we felt it was a great value for the price, plenty of time to explore and relax. The team here at Superior Pontoon Rentals were very friendly, helpful, and gave us plenty of their time and attention and answered our questions about the boat and where to go. This is one of the highlights of our entire cross country road-trip, we’ve been everywhere this year. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for an amazing experience out on the lake.Visited May 2023Written 27 May 2023
- Merc3 contributionsGreat company to do business with.Well run honest business with a friendly staff that goes out of their way to insure your safe return after a day of boating. Fuel was included in the price of the rental and they have the most lenient cancellation policy out of the pontoon boat rental companies in Munising. It was a wonderful day on the lake.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 July 2023
- Cindy B2 contributionsGreat day at Pictured RocksThe check in process and the instructions for driving the pontoon were clear and helpful. Very friendly. I fully echo the review of mercn3266. Even though the sky was mostly cloudy and it was a cooler day, it was a great experience with our family of 7 which includes young kids and one dog. We will definitely rebook with Superior next time we are at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. 10/10 recommend this company!Visited July 2023Written 26 July 2023
- Margaret EIowa City, Iowa21 contributionsSkip the chartered tours and rent a pontoon! We did a chartered tour of Pictured Rock and then several days later, rented a pontoon to see the area. I wish we had rented the Pontoon first, because we would've skipped the official tour! No standing in line, everyone on the pontoon has a great view, and it's more comfortable than the wooden benches you sit on for the official tours. Better in every way!Visited July 2023Written 28 July 2023

We thoroughly enjoyed renting from Superior Pontoon. The boats were well maintained and the service was extremely friendly. They were ready for our arrival and we were in the boat promptly. The view of Pictured Rocks was magnificent. We were able to boat around Pictured Rocks, Grand Island and over the shipwreck site. The adventure was worth the price and we were able to explore all of these sites easily with a four hour rental.

The staff was very nice and responsive. The pontoons are right in their backyard so it's a short walk to the boats. At full speed the end of Pictured Rocks is 1.1 hours. We had a good time and then the fog set in. It was a little scary being out in the fog. We followed a cruise ship for awhile and then hug the shore back to the rental place. We had a good time. Plus, we got to bring the dog.

Superior pontoon rentals was amazing! Extremely friendly staff, boat was clean and worked great, and the experience was one for the ages. We regretted not doing a full day rental instead of the half day, it was the first time our two little ones had been on a boat. We couldn't be more pleased with this company and the experience they provided.

The people in charge are very rude. Watch out for extra fees and unfair charges. I highly recommend finding another boat rental in the area.

We had no idea what to expect when we rented a pontoon, and we were a bit nervous about booking it because it isn't cheap. But it was so worth it. The staff at Superior were incredibly helpful, with directions, answering all my children's questions, and--upon our return--giving us a great dinner recommendation. The boat was clean, worked well, and even had a changing "room", which we used about 30 times during this trip. And the actual boat ride was spectacular. We did the whole day, so we took a leisurely trip down to Spray falls, had lunch on the boat, hung out on the beach for a while, swam a few times, and then had time to pop over to the island to visit the lighthouse (so many great rocks on this beach) and the Bay where the shipwreck was. It was such a great day. My kids said 100 thumbs up, I say 5 stars.

KNOW THAT THIS IS A LONG-- (MINIMUM 1 HOUR, MORE LIKE THREE-HOUR) BOAT COMMUTE TO PICTURED ROCKS. You are not hopping in a boat and buzzing over to the rocks. You are hopping in a boat and dealing with whatever waves and swells Lake Superior sends at you that day. For us, the spray over the boat was significant--passengers got wet!-- and it was rough ride. The rental company did their job--although these kids need to be wearing masks--but this was not a relaxing, leisurely ride you think of as "lake." It was much more "ocean," likely because of the direction of the wind. Parking can be tough as there are only a few spots, and arrive early because they're a bunch of paperwork. They can email it to you early if you request it. and ask for a emailed map while you're at it. Bring that with you in a gallon ziplock bag. And you'll pay around $35 for gas on top of the rental, just FYI.

Excellent boat rental, great condition, gorgeous views. Would recommend evening rental because the setting sun casts even more beautiful colors onto the Pictured rocks. one concern: -Would have like to see the workers wearing face masks because they can't really stay socially distant as they help you get started.

This was a great experience! With that being said, reserve early! We originally wanted to do a full day rental but my family had some confusion on who was making the reservation, and by the time we remembered they were all booked 3 weeks ahead for the half and full day rentals. We settled for the evening cruise and it did not disappoint! The check in process was super easy and then they take the driver down to show them around the boat for a few minutes. The boat had been well cleaned prior to our group, and we were super surprised by how nice and well kept the pontoons were. We rented a 24’ for 10 people(8 adults and 2 toddlers) which is at capacity so we were not able to go very fast at all, but we expected that would be the case. The evening cruise was just enough time for us to hit miner beach for about 20 minutes and cruise a little ways past it and then turn around. We definitely wished we had more time to explore, but I imagine you could get everything in if you did the full day rental. We had plenty of room for a large cooler, and everyone was seated comfortably with room to spare. Keep in mind that the price you pay at check in does not include gas, so when you get back they check the gauge and let you know how much it will be before you leave. We paid $25 for the 2.5 hrs. The guys that helped us get ready to go and dock when we came in were awesome. Super friendly and helpful. They do give you a map of attractions to see, and let you know about how far they think you can go given your time limit. If you are late getting in, it is a pretty hefty late fee so I don’t recommend cutting it too close!
The views were beautiful and even though you need to stay 200 feet away from the rocks, it was so much better than the big sightseeing boats. The 2 toddlers in our group (18m and 2 yr) especially loved the fact that they could run around in the boat and look off the side. We had beautiful weather (80 and sunny) and it still got chilly on the way back. Bring warm clothes! You will get wet depending on what way the wind is blowing, it is Lake Superior after all. We will definitely be back for a full day rental next time! This was a favorite of the trip!

The guys at Superior were great! My family and I had a great time. We booked an evening cruise and had plenty of time to see all the sights, even the island. The sunset was incredible!

We originally had a full day booked. Due to the weather, we were not able to see the Pictured Rocks. We had to stay in the bay and explore the South end of Grand Island. The staff was friendly and accommodating and allowed us to change our reservation to a half day trip. They processed a refund within 24 hours. The boats are in good condition. We have booked through Superior Pontoons two years in a row. We will try again next year to book a full day so we head up to Spray Falls and take our time on the way back. Make sure you book well in advance!

Can I bring my dog on the pontoon boat?

I dont see why not. But I would call to ask to be sure. I didnt see any notice you couldnt and we said numerous times after we wish we had taken our lab. There was plenty of room. The few beaches we stopped at were vacant and no signs about no dogs. In general the UP was very dog friendly. The pictures rock cruises even kenneled your dog if needed as they dont allow on their cruise.

Hi. My husband and I have just come home from a trip to Munising. We had such a great time I am planning our next visit.
How much does it cost to rent a pontoon?
lala1229

It cost about $275.00 plus gas. This was for a whole day rental. You can also rent for 1/2 day which is about $100 cheaper. It was a great way to see so much and fish too!
