Mahabodhi Temple is one of the ancient and most important shrines of India. Located at Bodhgaya, Mahabodhi Mahavihara Temple is easily accessible from the major towns and cities of Bihar. The nearest airport is located at Patna that lies at a distance of 96 kms from Gaya. The holy town Bodh Gaya or Gaya has its own railway station. The town is also connected with major cities by network of roads. The literal version of Mahabodhi Temple is the Great Awakening Temple.

The temple ia absolutely enchanting, very magistic... i had spent 2 hours in the temple and it was worth it. There is Mahabodhi Tree also.. really loved it. All my love and respect for Lord Buddha.

Its beautiful temple, may be the holiest of Buddhism. Security is very tight you cant carry any mobile or electronic inside the temple. Worth seeing even if you are not a Buddhist.

Must visit. It is here that Gauthama has become BUDDHA and preached simplicity, renunciation and Non violence .Most serene and peaceful place and well maintained. Lord Buddha in the main temple is very good looking.

Is there any special reasons to go there at 8pm? If you do you have little time for prayers and everything is in a rush.To escape darkness I'm already out by 6.30pm as it was already dark and I head off for dinner at Hotel... More

Hi Sorry I am not aware of trains/bus running between Katihar and Gaya. Please check Indian railway website.
