The tower was built by George Bancroft as a folly. It has been open since it was built. Shakespearen plays are performed here during the summer.

Great view of the city and a definite anomoly in this mill town. It stands by itself with no apparent purpose but is fun to explore and see the view as it is high up on a hill with woods surrounding it. Used to be...More

Checked this out this past weekend. Cool place to check out. Small parking area basically in front of the tower. Can't go inside except for some Sundays in October but worth it to take a few minutes to check it out any time of the...More

Went to visit Bancroft Tower last month. Interesting history on the accompanying plaque. Mr Bancroft was the ambassador to Germany and this tower was built by a friend in his honor. You can view of the Worcester skyline from this hilltop location.

Pretty place to visit in the fall to see the foliage from the tower which, I believe, you can only climb for 4 weekends in October. Especially interesting if you are from the Worcester area and know a bit about the history of Worcester.

We visited because it honors the gent who founded the Naval Academy and looked interesting. The tower was locked, but we still got a great view of Worcester, since there were no leaves on the trees. It was fun to take a few photos with...More
