This area has some surprisingly rugged trails, giving it a more adventurous feel than other similar area venues. A skilled rider may enjoy the rougher trails on a mountain biker, and everyone can enjoy them on foot. A good place to get away from the urban lifestyle!

The Mr and I spent 3 nights in a camper cabin. They were a bit smaller than some we’ve been in before- no inside table. Had AC which we weren’t expecting. Would like to have a State Park stamp- but none available. The park was nice, pretty areas to walk.

Previously when I have visited Susquehanna State Park, I have driven from Havre de Grace north. This time I drove south from Darlington and noticed some sights I had missed before. Of particular interest was the train trestle bridge across Deer Creek where it enters the river. It is set up now as a walkway, and several people had crossed and were fishing where the river and Creek converged. A special treat was the wild white bleeding heart flowers that were in full bloom near the paths. I got a better view of the flint furnace. Also I paid attention to the historical buildings and drove up close to get a full view of the Archer House also known as Rock Run House. I was afforded a different view of the Rock Run Grust Mill from the higher ground of the Archer house.. it was a sunny but cool day, ideal for exploring.

We visited Susquehanna State Park to walk along the water and visit the historic sites in the Rock Run area. There is a pamphlet on the internet with information about the historical sites and there are historical markers as well. The trail is easy to approach and not "difficult" as mentioned on some websites. It is a good place to walk around safely during Covid times and then drive into Havre de Grace to see the lighthouse, enjoy ice cream or a meal, or just walk by the water.

It’s a few miles off of 95 south so it’s extremely easy to get to. It’s also located a couple miles from the scenic town of Havre de Grace which offers delicious seafood and wonderful local ice cream.

The state park has ample parking, lots of rustic buildings and an overgrown walkway along the Susquehanna River. There are a bunch of trails to navigate some in the forest and some along the roads. There is also a boat launch nearby for those who have small boats.

Very hard to reach through some harrowing narrow country roads. And the sites themselves are a teeny claustrophobic. But once you got on a trail and headed for the creek or river you were richly rewarded. We hiked down to the creek and had a great time swimming with kids and dog.

Hint - Ignore the warning that the trail that jogs right is “very difficult”. Actually a more direct route to the water. And you are rewarded with walking by a Maryland Trophy Tree.

We stopped here on our way to PA. Campsites were not as level as other parks and there were rowdy guests that no one seemed to check on. We went over and told them to tone it down which they did for awhile. Nice park but due to Covid places were closed. River was nice to view.

We came to hike the scenic Mason-Dixon trail along the Susquehanna. The first 3.5 miles are flat, parallel to the river. Starting at the railroad bridge, the first mile is a well-traveled wooded path followed by a much wider rail/bike trail to the dam. Despite covid, it’s moderately used but there was plenty of room to avoid others.

At the dam, the trail starts heading finally into the woods and becomes sparsely used. We walked a pleasant 7+ miles. Good for kids and adults of all ages. Great scenery - birds, water, flowers.
