I just returned from a retreat on Smith Island with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and learned so much. First of all, Smith Island is actually made up of three island communities: Tylerton, (population of about 45) Ewell, (population of around 100) and Rhodes Island (which...More

I enjoyed staying on this island. It is old and has it's issues but it still is a wonderful place with really nice residents. I stayed at Smith Island Motel. Dory and Allen are great hosts who really get you into the island life. I...More

We took Smith Island Cruises out for a day trip. Nice 50 minute ride to the island, a very nice visitor's center. Lunch at the restaurant where you dock is simple but very delicious - tastiest fish and chips I've had in a while. It...More

We 100% had a lovely day trip to Smith Island! Took the Jason 2 ferry ($25 R/T) from Crisfield @ 12:30. Sat up in front on the breezy bench- below the Cap’t. Enjoyed a beautiful 45 minute ride with pelican, eagle, fish, crab and heron...More

Smith Island was amazing! We kayaked and rode our bikes to places of incredibly natural beauty. The local culture is distinctive - warm and kind (not to mention the unique accent). Home-cooked meals at our air bnb. Boat trips with an Nth generation "waterman," seeing...More

Took the ferry to the island which was very nice however, the island itself was a huge disappointment. Rented a golf cart and was only able to access a few streets due to high tide. They won't let you drive through any water with the...More

The ferry ride is 45 minutes. We left Crisfield at 12:30. We were on Smith Island by 1 and had to be back at the dock at 3:45 to head back to Crisfield. We had plenty of time to explore it all in those 2 hours we were there.
