Disappointing with poor service
Apr 2021 • Couples
Booked a table for the evening as the weather was so nice, had high hopes as a few friends have recently visited and posted great photos of their time there. On arrival it wasn’t overly busy and were shown to our table inside the marquee area. However, that was basically it. We sat there for 15 minutes wondering if there were any menus or if we were going to be asked if we would like any drinks, however nothing, despite some of the staff members looking across and catching our eye. Having waited long enough, we got up and asked for a menu, which we were given and told some would be straight over to take our drinks order. Another 10 minutes had passed and still nothing. By this point we had had enough and decided to leave and go elsewhere. Really disappointed as having eaten their pre covid the food was really good, however poor service is one of my biggest bugbears so we won’t be going back there again. Also, I don’t think we were the only one having issues as we noticed the couple next to us complaining to the manager about the service, who’s response was that the staff were new and hadn’t been trained

Sunday lunch
Sep 2020 • Couples
We went to the George and Dragon for lunch on the last day of our holiday. Very olde worlde pub in pretty Fordwich. We opted for the Sunday roast ...they do 2 different sized portions which is good. Lots of meat, vegetables and Yorkshire pudding all topped with yummy gravy! The puddings were also very tasty ! Very friendly waitress also ...would definitely recommend

Amazing food!

We booked to make use of the last day of Eat Out to Help Out and we weren’t disappointed. Bank Holiday, busy garden but still our food arrived really quickly and it was delicious. We all thoroughly enjoyed both mains and dessert. Measures for COVID were excellent. One way system, sanitizers, meet and greet at the door. Staff wore face shields. We felt perfectly safe. Well done, after a worrying few months, The George and Dragon have bounced back with excellent staff and food. Thank you

The George and WHAT A DRAG
Aug 2020
After a wonderful day canoeing along the river my life partner and I decided to venture into The George and dragon, what a mistake!!! Despite the beautiful interior this establishment failed to provide one crucial element, good food. I ordered the buttermilk chicken burger which to my misfortune was grossly oversalted my partner ordered a similar beefburger and both were accompanied by a portion of chips I would not serve to an elf nor a toddler. At the price of £14.95 I would’ve at least expected an adult size portion!Foolishly of us we also decided to order desert the crème brûlée I must say was delicious however my partner’s brownie was accompanied by an hair. Despite having many staff members our drinks arrived after our starters, however, we did not complain not out of lack of reason more rather had lost the will to be at the George and Dragon any longer. If I’m ever in this beautiful town again I will be giving the George and dragon, nothing to write home about.

Expectations were high...

A very popular venue and well known in the area. Car parking located opposite the pub. Reservation is necessary. It was very busy and this may account for some minor issues that took the edge off the overall experience. Reserved table for 4 but only 2 chairs present. Stood around waiting for 2 more chairs to be taken to the table. Once seated for a while we had to go to the bar and ask for drinks and the menu as no one had done this. Asked for table water and 1 glass was presented. No complaints about the food. Good menu, lots of choice, good to see something different. Well presented and delicious. When the main course arrived we had no cutlery left having used it for the starter and so had to ask 2 members of staff to get more. Some customers at the bar were very drunk and swearing loudly. Bar staff should have dealt with this quickly as it led to several people leaving. A minor incident then occurred and the Licensee dealt with the customers and then apologised profusely to everyone. She was clearly annoyed at those who had spoilt the night for others. Her customer service skills were excellent. Overall the food is very good, staff are friendly and the location is lovely. Maybe on our visit the staff weren’t on their game? An ‘Average’ rating is mean but it wasn’t Very good’.

Food tasted great, service poor
Sep 2019 • Family
Five main dishes were not available. Excuse was that they had a lot of people in on Friday. We’d booked way in advance so this was disappointing.

Out of a party of 6, 4 of us had to go with 2nd or 3rd choices on the menu! Such a shame considering it was for my husband’s birthday. Food quality is good if you are happy to settle for limited availability.

Rubbish. Overpriced. Overrated.

Disappointing food. Very small portions for the prices they charge. Average at best. Plenty of better pubs and food nearby. Avoid.

Lovely big pub garden, plenty of seating inside and spacious options for dining. Big menu with lots of options too.

Lovely pub

Had lunch at the George & Dragon after a mornings activity in the area. Only required sandwiches and beer but we were treated the same as everyone. Reasonably priced. Friendly staff.
Great location, fantastic ambience and a long history. Large beer garden and outside dining area. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Food , plenty of gluten free options
Mar 2019 • Family
Had an impromptu meal and loved it. Gluten free steak pie was delicious. More than one choice of GF flood even the chips and most important GF Peroni

Nice choice of Gins to enjoy and wide choice of other drinks.

We ate inside but the garden is glorious in the summer by the river.
Dogs very welcome
