Beautiful Wine Estate with a fantastic Restuarant. They provide amazing food, wine tasting with food pairing. We had the Lamb Shank which was so yummy. Their pizza's looked fantastic and was very popular with the patrons. Thanks Philip for adding to making our visit so awesome!

Visiting our local wine farms
Mar 2021 • Family
Beautiful sceney, avg to good food. But disappointing wine, I tried to be open minded, and just could not find anything I like. Visited most of the wine farms in South Africa , this was the first winery which wines did not impress at all.

An incredible lunch at this venue. Booked on line and on arrival we were shown to our table within minutes. What a treat from the Jakkalsvlei wine selection to the variation of great food from Ribs to Pizza. We had Lamb Shank,Ribs Burgers and Pizza. Everyone was a culinary delight and our waitress Charmene' was outstanding. The views from this restaurant are amazing and a great day was experienced. Thanks to Jakkalsvlei for this experience.

We will return soon.
Mar 2021
Our meal and the wine were well up to the standard one expects from an establishment like this. We four visitors from George soaked up the atmosphere and
vowed to return soon. The management must be congratulated for making visitors so
welcome and for excellent service. Brett our waitron was most helpful.

What a let down compared to other wine estates
Feb 2021 • Couples
It was our first visit and not sure if we will go again to their restaurant. At first your impresion is that it is a beatifule venue on par with what you would expect in the Cape wine lands. Apart from the non atentative service, If you like waver thin overpriced pizzas with hardly any toppings then you will appreciate the venue and their offerings. We enjoyed some wine while scanning what people orderd before we decided on our very basic choice - see bill attached. The wine is excellent and worth adding to your wine selection. It is quite a drive so next time we will get more wine and skip the restaurant all together. Today we went to Pizza Vino in Hartenbos to enjoy a real pizza. See image attached, Briliant.

Well worth a return visit..
Nov 2020
We four elderly gentlemen from George usually have lunch at a different venue every month. This time we visited Jakkalsvlei. Our meal was excellent and the pork belly well. up to the standard expected at such an establishment. We like our wines and were not disappointed although the nominated driver only had a sip or three. This place has class and we purchased a fair amount of the "good stuff"to take. home. We will be back.

Picnic Style During Peak Season
Dec 2019
On a previous visit to Jakkalsvlei we sat in their restaurant, but this time around we visited in peak holiday season during which they open up their casual dining option which has more of a picnic style. Here they only do "build your own pizza" and they also stock the farms' beers and wines. As there are no waiters you place your order at the counter and collect once done. Infront of the restaurant they have a big, beautiful lawn that overlooks the valley and vineyards where we could sit and relax at picnic tables covered by 2 big tents. There were also live performances while we visited and the kids had a play area and a jumping castle to entertain them. Their beers include a Lager and a Pale Ale of which I enjoyed both and we also enjoyed our pizzas although we felt that they were on the pricier side. Although they are a bit in the middle of nowhere, I rate it is worth a try if you haven't been there before. The picnic area however does not take bookings so arrive early if you are a big group and want shade throughout the entire day. If you are going to the restaurant you definitely need to make a booking during peak season as they are very popular. Overall everyone had a fun time and as the farm is very beautiful you could easily spend the entire day there. Note: If you are planning on drinking wine at the picnic area you also need to buy glasses there.

Expected more

Although it is a beautiful scenic drive out to Jakkalsvlei and the establishment offers peaceful panoramic views of the vineyards from the deck area, I found their wine tasting experience exceptionally disappointing and the service to be severely lacking.

I visited for the first time and knew absolutely nothing about the wine farm except from what I saw on a brochure I picked up at one of the filling stations (which was also not terribly informative either). I wanted to visit because I enjoy wine very much and it was the only wine farm I knew of along the garden route that was supposedly worth a visit.

The establishment itself is very neatly manicured and one could see that they put a great deal of effort into maintaining the gardens and front entrance as well as the parking area.

After a brief greeting, the waitron presented the wine pairing menus for us to make a selection. They did not offer any recommendations or advice. It was just like: here are the menus - choose. The "story"/"history" of the wine farm was something that we were just supposed to read. There was nothing personal about the experience and the waitron didn't share anything about the wines nor the farm at all.

I opted to just taste the wine on its own and my partner chose a fudge and wine pairing. My wines were presented to me in individual glasses with some glasses having the frosted logo on and some not. The logos were put on the table without regard - the labels didn't even face me. There is not a chart or map for the order of the wines and I basically guided myself through the tasting with the menu next to me. My partner's pairing basically arrived in two stages: first the wines; and then quite some time after, the fudge - after asking for them. Also no explanation of the wines or details about the fudge - if we had not asked questions to prompt the waitron, we would not have been any the wiser. My partner was also a first time wine drinker and no instruction regarding how to pair was presented either.

Cleanliness also lacking - for the duration of our visit there was a pizza spillage next to my chair from the previous visitors and it was still there when we left. Our table was sticky and no effort to clean it. I stepped over it twice en route to the bathroom and again when I returned.

Presentation of product, both wine and pairing, are poor, most likely due to lack of training I assume? Service particularly slow as well and I did not purchase any wine before we left as I usually do because I didn't feel it was worth it and none of the wines stood out to me as notable or unique. Overall, a wasted opportunity to capture new clients. Nothing made us feel particularly welcome as new visitors. Left rather sad and extremely disappointed.
