I invited my girlfriends yesterday to join me for wine tasting and lunch at one of my favourite wine farms seeing that they have never experienced the amazing wines, food and views at this special place with excellent service! Unfortunately they dropped the ball big time yesterday which was disappointing and embarrassing!🤦♀️ It started off very well with champagne tasting while we selected our food. I highly recommended the lamb and pork belly. We were the only guests for lunch so we expected the food to arrive quickly. Well, we were waiting ages for our food and after several enquiries and irritating the manager by now our food arrived! Unfortunately the waiter forgot to order the starter and instead of communicating this to us the chef decided to leave our prepared food under the lights to keep warm while the warm mussel starter was cooked. It was inevitable that the food will spoil . The main course and the starter arrived simultaneously for one of my friends. We intended to share the mussel starter!! My friend was unhappy and sent the lamb back because it was dry - so was the pork belly🤷♀️ definitely a disaster!! The manager tried to persuade my friend to have the lamb after the starter but my friend refused because a starter is a starter!! The service was appalling and very inconsistent!! There were discrepancies on the bill which was sorted out eventually! The manager mentioned that she didn’t charge my friend for the starter if it was a favour to us!! They created this chaos and didn’t want to take responsibility for it!! It seems that we were a problem!! They also changed as wine club members we are no longer allowed to taste champagne for free! I don’t have a problem with that, but they didn’t inform us prior to the tasty and with that I have a problem! I am not sure if we received the discount as wine club members on our food bill 🤷♀️. Amazing they couldn’t cope with 4 ladies having lunch and only ordered 1 starter, 4 main courses?! Sadly my friends will never go there again and it hurts me because I love this wine farm!

I invited my girlfriends yesterday for a wine tasting and lunch at one of my favourite wine farms! Wines, food, service and views are always amazing! This time they dropped the ball big time!! It started off very well with champagne tasting while we decided what to eat! I highly recommended the pork belly and rack of lamb. We waited ages for our food and we were the only guests for lunch! The starter didn’t appear either. Eventually after several times enquiring about our food, it arrived!! One of my girlfriends got her starter and main course simultaneously!!🤦♀️ The starter was forgotten and it was inevitable that the finished dishes were placed under the hot light while the chef was cooking the warm mussel starter. The pork belly and lamb were dry and looked unappetising! My friend sent the lamb back and just ate the starter. I was so embarrassed because I was so proud of this wine farm🥲.To crown it all there were discrepancies with the bill and the manager felt that my friend should be pleased that she wasn’t charged for the lamb although it was their mistake!! Needless to say my friend will not visit R&R again which is a shame! I don’t know if we got the discount as wine club members 🤷♀️. We did purchase wines!! The service was extremely poor!! 🤦♀️

I was really looking forward to experience the high tea at Antony Rupert.
I've been somehow disappointed, as it was way too busy/crowded for me. I assume it was due to the bad weather, which obviously reduced the sitting space.
The service was good and the food selection as well. The tea selection was basic for a high tea and such a nice and famous place that Antonij Rupert is...

After researching wineries in the area, this was one my wife didn't want to miss. It was one of the nicer wineries we visited, and had lovely grounds with fantastic views.
The staff was friendly and knowledgable, and was able to answer all the questions we had about the wines we tried.
We tried most of the tasting menu and enjoyed their South African and French selections.
The atmosphere was relaxing and we enjoyed our time here. I would recommend Rupert & Rothschild to anyone looking for a nice winery in Franschhoek.

This beautiful wine farm produces great wines! Tasting is a must! Amazing experience not to be missed. The young man , Shane September, who assisted us was extremely talented. Very modest and polite. We ordered a cheese platter which was yummy!! Beautiful presented with the most fantastic cheeses and condiments!! Very special!! Big thank you to Shane and Grace for such a spiffing experience. Absolutely stupendous!! We will be back for lunch.

Situated on the road to Franschoek it is a must stop if you enjoy good red wine. The setting and ambiance is amazing and staff most helpful. We did not eat there but the restaurant setting looked amazing as well. Definitely recommend a stop here. Great wines!

Pulling into the parking area I spotted quite a few cars, but walking into the tastefully done up Tasting Centre there was only one other table of three people to be seen. Service was quick and the various options were explained to me; either just Wine Tasting at R10/tasting (Rothschild wines from the farm and from around the world), a three course Wine and Food Tasting (covering the three wines produced on the farm) or a five course Wine and Food Tasting (covering some local and some international Rothschild wines). I dithered a little bit but in the interest of scientific research (though not my waistline) I had to go for the five course Wines of the World Wine and Food Tasting at R235.
As previously mentioned, the place was virtually empty, which gave me free rein to explore and take some pictures undisturbed. The tasting counter, lounge and restaurant are all very tastefully done up in neutral colours and wood, with some interesting touches like the light fittings to add colour. The outside area is also very inviting with couched areas as well as more traditional tables on the deck.
All of the dishes are served hot, with the exception of the Cold Smoked Salmon that is paired with the champagne. After explaining a bit about the wines to me the server left me to get on with the serious business of tasting the wines and food. Of the wines the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was my favourite, with the Chateau Des Laurets a close second. All of the food was amazing and though the portions look small they are quite substantial and more than a mouthful each. The Crispy Karoo Lamb would have to be my favourite and I wish I could have tried out the Pork Belly and Braised Springbok on the three course Tasting menu as well, but that really would have been overkill! The wine is poured in fairly substantial measures, and I got a taste of the two locally produced Rothschild wines for free, making this another good value for money Food and Wine Tasting.
The Rupert and Rothschild Tasting Centre could do with being busier as it would improve the atmosphere and whole experience; currently it is a bit cold and clinical, especially if you’re pretty much the only person there and there’s more staff than customers. A nice buzz of people enjoying themselves and the wonderful setting would definitely add to the experience, not that it is in any way a bad experience. Here the focus is on a food and wine tasting, with the food almost taking centre stage, rather than being a support act. I enjoyed the wines but would have to say that I probably enjoyed the food more than the wine; though that may have something to do with the fact that I can’t actually afford Rupert and Rothschild’s wines! I can fully recommend the R&R experience to anyone looking for a relaxed lunchtime experience in a beautiful setting with some great food and wine.
