Morning ride was a great experience through the vineyards and fruit farms.
Attentive staff and great horses. Can’t wait to come back when we can do a wine tasting ride.

Lovely scenery and view on my 2 hour tour, but black local staff didn't seem too content at the stables.

The tours are nice, and the scenery on the tours that last 2hrs or more is very beautiful.
BUT the guide named Kate, was very rude, and racist towards the black men who work on the farm. We felt very uncomfortable with the way she spoke to them and to the volunteers working on the farm (if they dont get paid the least you can do is show some respect). We dont want to support that kind of behavior.
We also noticed that, eventhough it is around 35-40 degrees, the horses dont have shelter from the sun in their paddocks.

I had the best week at CWR. As the only guest I was made most welcome by Louis, Ellen & Kate. I visit many riding places every year but only return to a few, and CWR is definitely on that list.
The horses live out in small groups and are very well cared for; the riding was just how I like it (fun and fast) on the amazing Olympia & Dixie; the routes took in different terrain & scenery each day & the guides could tell me about the flora and fauna we encountered; and it was perfect to visit different wineries for a tasting & lunch while the horses rested in a paddock nearby. And the dinners in local restaurants each evening, hosted by one of the staff, were excellent too.

I had the best time on this ride! The booking process was simple, asking for my experience riding. The company also arranged an excellent pick-up driver. The horses all looked great in their paddocks, and my horse was well-suited to my declared experience level (which was verbally checked before the ride as well). I was able to trot and canter on the ride, and my horse, Chenook, was lovely, forward and responsive. I'd love to do a full or multi-day with them!

I booked this last minute vacation thanks to the great recommendation of Far and Ride (Holly and Cathy) to start the new year. I was travelling alone and I had not ridden in years. I spent 4 nights but I could easily stayed another 2 or 3. The location is ideal as it is less than an hour from Cape Town airport.

First of all, there are horses for any level, the farm is well kept and the animals are all extremely well taken care of. I stayed in one of the 3 rooms on the farm, though you can stay at local inn or hotel if you prefer. the rooms are very clean and user friendly. You wake up with the rooster and you have breakfast on your little terrace looking horse pasture.

The rides are fantastic: we mainly left in the morning to go to a wine farm for an almost 3 hour picturesque ride, then we stopped for lunch and some wine tasting while the horses were enjoying a break, and back in the saddle again to ride back a shorter way,

One day, to change it up, we did the Grotto Beach excursion , 15 km of unspoiled beach for fast gallop action. wow !

Our guide and co owner/manager Ellen was with us every day and she so knowledgeable about the area, you also get a cultural visit as you feast on the scenery.

The area is obviously full of different vineyards but you also ride through different types of orchards with pear, prunes, lemons, etc..

It is one of the most relaxing and beautiful place I have been.

Advice if you go in the summer (in my case, January) temperature can rise up to 36 celsius: take sunscreen with you, a bandana to protect your neck and long sleeve shirts versus short sleeves.

I booked a 3 hour ride as an experienced rider and had my fingers crossed that I would be able to ride in all paces. Well I wasn’t disappointed. I rode the lovely Sky who was a real gent and very responsive. I went out with my lead rider! Martin who knew the area very well. It was so relaxing and surpassed all my expectations. The horses are very well cared for, tack allin good condition and the prices extremely reasonable. No hesitation in recommending this riding establishment

Thanks Louis for a fabulous ride. The pace was perfect with lots of long canters and trots on very responsive horses. I was pleased to see rubber snaffles and horses that didn’t need much contact. A memorable ride and we will be back for more.

Thank you Louis for the most amazing winelands ride. I thought it would be a slow ride but instead I had fun cantering through vineyards and walking over roads. I was very lucky to have a solo ride and I really felt looked after by my horse Sky and Louis. 3 hours of pure bliss that I will never forget. Tack was immaculate and you could see how Louis loves his horses by the way they are all so happy and healthy. I have never seen such chilled, laid back horses in my life before. My gosh and I have never seen such a variety of horse breeds on one farm. This is one riding venue you have to ride through and believe me I have ridden at many stables in this area before and the standard is low on other farms compared to Louis high standards. You can see Louis does this as a passion and for the love of horses and certainty not for money. Thanks again Cape Winelands Riding you proved to be the best.
