- FiFMarlborough Region, New Zealand274 contributionsBeautiful stopover in WinelandsBeautiful location and very well equipped luxurious rooms . We were in a vineyard room and it was all we needed and more . Luxurious bedding and great bed . Lovely bathroom and stunning views Beautiful wine tasting room . Dinner and breakfast at Savoye were delicious and staff excellent . The only reason not to give maximum recommendation was the regular drop off of wifi ( not shedding ) and the issues around mischarging and problems with check out payments . Otherwise a fabulous stay and great location .Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 April 2024

We stayed here for one night- the room was spacious, clean and stylish. The Savoy restaurant was an absolute delight and great value too. We very much enjoyed the complimentary wine tasting with our stay too!Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 September 2024

We felt so welcome, and at home, andvthe wines were really nice! A suprise when tasting was the 🧡Viognier...give it a try, a taste of suprics, clean, earth, happy, beautiful smooth and elegant...different. but of what s nice supprice! Thank you Noxi, we will be back!!!Visited December 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 10 December 2024
- Luc Victor816 contributionsSpectacular immersionThis is not just like any other wine estate that offers wine tasting. Vrede en Lust offers a spectacular experience – something felt by the senses. From gazing at the beautiful landscape and vineyards, smelling the essence of fresh country air, to savoring the morsels offered at the bistro and bakery, every aspect of your visit here will leave an indelible impression. The wines distilled here are as exceptional as the estate itself, which offers an opportunity for clients to hold special events or conferences, while basking in the ambiance. Although a visit here can be accessed through the Wine Tram, one should still definitely take more time to really immerse in everything Vrede en Lust has to offer and let oneself free.Visited October 2024Travelled soloWritten 13 December 2024

Visited whilst on the Wine Tram and tried their Black Label Tasting. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed some fabulous views across the valley.
There were 5 wines to taste and we really enjoyed the Shiraz and the Erasmus - the tasting cost R120 per person and we were well looked after by Jade - there was no pressure to buy any wines.
A nice tasting and worth a visit if you eat at the Lust Bakery which we would strongly recommend.

Delicious prawn/corn/avocado salad was delivered promptly and with great service. Wine recommendation of Ella was delicious and surrounding grounds were beautiful. The additional specialty of baked goods was great…purchased chocolate chip cookies & muffins for later.

We stayed overnight in a beautiful apartment overlooking the vineyards with huge windows offering an amazing view.
The wine tasting experience was very special, set in a great ambiance with some amazing cheese and meat platters to enjoy with the wines.
In the evening we dined in the on estate restaurant Savoye which offers incredible tapas … some of the best I’ve ever tasted outside Spain. The mushroom pastry is a must have… Overall a fabulous stay and we will be back

We were very much looking forward to easter lunch at Savoye and came especially from Camps Bay.
When we arrived, we were offered a table inside, even though we pre-booked a table on the patio 1 month ahead. When we told the waitress, she wanted to give us a very basic (shabby) wooden table at the side of the restaurant overlooking a parking without view. We weren't asked for drinks and weren't offered any bread and butter.
The guests on the table in front of us had kids permanently jumping into the pool and then walking past our table soaking wet to the bar to order drinks. The starter we liked (prawns) was already sold out. This should not happen if you offer a easter lunch costing 450 p.p.
I ended up eating a caprese salad, which tasted dull. The only other option was pork, what I don't eat. Our daughter (11) ordered a home made kids pizza without cheese and pineapple, only ham and she got what looked like two store-bought kiddies pizza breads, cheese removed and added ketchup/tomato sauce. We also had to pay extra for the fries, which were on the kiddies menu.
One fork was bent, one spoon very dirty, the second glass of white wine came in a red wine glass.
The mains (tuna) were loaded with food, the taste was ok but nothing special. We didn't even want to finish it. My husband had a eye lash on the starter and a hair on the main dish. Disgusting! Absolutely not, what we expected from pictures and beautiful words on the website.
The only positive thing were the male waiters. They were very friendly.
I have been to many restaurants in the Winelands but never was I as disappointed as I am from Savoye. Definitely room for improvement here.

Wine was great but service, food and experience were shambolic. We wasted ZAR 600 on a horrible “tapas tasting” experience. The server made sure there was enough time for our wine to get warm before another 15 minutes wait with our food in front of us to guarantee it was cold. Even if not served by someone inept at their job, the tapas would have been a rip off. This is the only vineyard we regretted stopping at on an otherwise great day

We have been for a wine tasting numerous times and that is why we returned. Upon arrival we informed the staff that we did not have a booking (which is quite ridiculous to have to make bookings these days for a wine tasting.... what happened to spontaneity?)
We really would have loved to be seated at one of their couches since I have a back issue, but was informed that the 8 seater couch area was reserved - for 2 pax... We enquired whether we can have sit there, but was informed that they are not allowed to do that. When the booked guests arrives we can approach them and ask to share the 8 seater couch - which would have been in the next 10mim
We did the Black Label tasting, and an hour later we left. Guess what? The 2 pax still hadn't arrived and neither did the hostess offer us to sit there even though it was a no-show booking.
Extremely disappointed in the lack of initiative from the hostesses. They call them wine ambassadors, I do not agree with this title. If this is the behavior that is conducted, the title may as well be Roadhouse Waitress, where no finesse and hospitality is required.

We came here as part of the wine tram tour and it was our favourite stop. We did the Black Label tasting while looking out at the incredible view of the valley. Our host Noxi was brilliant at walking us through the wines and helping us to understand the flavours and nuances. I am no wine expert and it was great to have such a pro to help us out! Came away very happy (and a bit tipsy) :)

We have never been to Vrede & Lust before and were excited to go. Unfortunately we were greeted with poor service, had to wait for 20 minutes to be helped, and staff who did not ask us which wines we preferred to taste but rather just poured what they wanted to. Overall it was an underwhelming experience and we will not return again.

We had an amazing time here! Originally we hit a snag due to power outages, so we couldn't pay by card. To circumvent this obstacle, Pam in the restaurant and Landi of the Wine Tasting gave us the opportunity to experience both tasteful food and great wine, sitting outdoors overseeing the vast fields of wine and the mountains. This could not have worked out better for us! A special shoutout to our very witty waitress Noxi is also of the utmost importance.
Everyone working here really helped us make it and above and beyond experience!
