Make time and go. It’s a treasure throve. Linger on the grounds and step into history. Not to miss the apse capitals by the Master of Cabestany. Notice the unmistakable style. See three eras in one gaze in the church. The main alter is pure high baroque, the left chapel romanesque and the right chapel gothic. Unique.

We visited the abbey on the way to basin du Lampy. Very pretty with good information boards and impressive church. Worth a stop for 30-45 visit.

Another picturesque abbey in France and another gorgeous cloister for this small romanesque monastery on the edge of a very quiet little village. Annoyingly closed over lunch but then open with all the facilities.

Saint Papoul is a historic village well worth a visit in its own right with some beautiful and ancient buildings to find. On the outskirts is the abbey, which is beautiful and well preserved. An oasis of calm and although small, well worth an hour of your time.

We were staying near Saint Papoul, so drove by the Abbaye every day. We decided to have a look. There was an very good pamphlet (in multiple languages) explaining what we were looking at. For us Canadians, it was amazing to see that this structure was first cited in 812! We were the only people there on a cool, cloudy afternoon, so we could imagine what it might have been like when the Abbaye was functioning. If you're near Saint-Papoul it is well worth an hour of your time to check this out.

There appears to be two references to this Abbey so I will write in both.

The top of his head is missing!!!
Why would this not appeal to small boys?
There are icons and pictures everywhere.

The entrance fee - if you have a Cathar pass you don't pay full price.
There is a shop, with interesting items for sale.

It is worth a visit if only for the story the Abbey tells, its a great little place. Situated in what was a medieval village, and for those who like Abbey's and church's worth the time.
If however your not then you may find that the visit is over too quickly. We took the time to read the story on the many information boards that are around and about.

There is parking very close by, however there is a one way system of sorts which was a bit confusing.

We visited the abbey with our 2 kids (3&5).

There was actually not much to see, the church is very average only the cloister part is quite nice.

If you pass by it, you could visit (entrance is 5€ which is quite high for a place you have seen in 20 min) but certainly not worth any detour (unless you really love abbeys).

I regret that you do not have appreciete the visit. There is a complet guidebook in english to discover the church, the cloister, the refectory and the village. There is also an exhibition on the Master of Cabestany, a famous roman sculptor, who is translated into english. It's a pity... Thank you for your feedback.

Pretty little village with a beautiful old Abbey. The church inside is worthy the entrance fee alongside the pretty cloisters. Worth a visit and certainly worth buying a Inter-site passport to get some money off

A charming abbey in a very nice setting. A nice peaceful surrounding and a surprising discovery in the area coming from les Cammazes.
