All reviews beautiful beach favorite beach palm trees white sand clear water bike ride dirt road empanadas great waves nicest beaches costa rica caribbean side rip tides rent a kayak the puerto viejo area the cliff float
Different surf patterns and feeling than the main Beach. Rented a bike a ride the 8 kms from town. Restaurant nearby and vendors selling food on the beach. Very relaxing or adventurous if you try out the surfing.
A little further along from the main Puerto Viejo beach but worth the extra mile. Nice & quiet & lots of fish along the rockline. Easy to walk into from the beach to go snorkelling & friendly local fishermen & artisans. Definitely recommended.
This beach is certainly beautiful. It was, like all other ranked beaches on TripAdvisor, crowded. Don't know if it is because we went there on a Sunday, but it is certainly not like in the picture. We went, saw it, and then left in search...More
This is not a typical lounge beach. There were lots of ants and bugs, lots of debris and sand wasn't great. I have been to beaches all over the world and wouldn't make a special trip for the beach. The river above the beach was...More
This was a beautiful, CLEAN, empty beach just 15yrs ago (maybe sooner). But now it's overcrowded and polluted. It's interesting to me that people were actually swimming in this water! I heard one woman say to her group (after her children had been swimming for...More
what I prefer is the clear water and mostly no waves, not too many visitors (don´t know why) but that´s good so it is quite. It´s always clean, just 15 mins drive in car or 40 mins in bicycle from Puerto Viejo, restaurants and dive...More

Is just 10 minutes or less from Puerto Viejo

Hi! There are hotels near this beach. We stayed closer to Playa Negra at Casa de Corazon Del Mar. The oceans we saw in Costa Rica are not particularly blue and sparkling, but this beach did have a pretty greenish blue color near the peninsula. Possibly that's why it was recommended to us. I'm unsure about the surf fishing. Hope that helps!

we were told before we went on our holiday to CR that the whole country was sketchy - far from the truth - from our stay in Alajuela at the Melrost bed and breakfast to the drive across the mountain ranges and down through Limon on to Puerto Viejo we found the people very courteous, friendly and happy! Manzanillo is a tiny fishing village with few people, restaurants etc - never found anything sketchy about it. In Puerto Viejo we got asked if we wanted smoke or coke - (like in every other Caribbean country) and we said no - there was no hassle - no problems - we never encountered any beggars asking for change (which I find in every city in Canada) guess what I am trying to say is be cool in any country you go to - treat the locals with respect and you will get respect back - simple...enjoy the Caribbean side of CR - its awesome, amazing and unique! peace
