This is a long, low cliff composed go basalt columns, some of which have broken off and fragmented creating a fascinating sight reminiscent of ancient Greek temples. The cliffs are 2km off the road, but 4WD is not required. You can drive a little further...More

These cliffs don’t look like much from the road, but as you get closer, you realize how big the columns really are. The road in it a little rough, but not too bad. Park at one end and follow one of the little “goat trails”...More

From a distance these columns don't look like much of anything. As you get closer, the massiveness of these columns becomes apparent. They almost look like a fortress wall. You can easily walk around and climb on them, but it is rocky, so be careful....More

It was just a wall on the side of the road until you get close. It's a good hike up and impressive basalt columns. You can get to the top of the wall from either edge on both sides.

Worth the detour off the main road. These columns are impressive. Parking area in a pull-off. Standing at the base gives a great perspective of how tall these columns are.

The view of the cliffs from the bottom is unique and interesting. The scramble to the top is somewhat precarious, but rewarding if the weather is clear. After you visit the cliffs, continue down the road to visit Raudamelsokelda, a bubbling mineral spring, waterfall, and...More

Just drive up the road and park off the side of the road in front of the columns. We found a trail that went up to the top and walked around up there for a while and around the area. It was a pretty stop....More

We somehow expected more but I guess since it was still snowy you couldnt see the salt columns all the way from the buttom. I think the view is better when you are further away than when driving right in front of them.

beautiful, on a gravel dirt road off the main. Hiked up and slid down. Great place to take pics. If you have a small car, avoid driving too far in because the road becomes icy
