I was hoping for a bit more than what we experienced at this site. First, the visitor's building was new and clean. There was a short film and some museum exhibits which were interesting enough. Then the walk through the village was a disappointment. The...More

The rebuilt town where Abraham Lincoln spent his early adulthood in the 1830s forged his can-do attitude as he learned how to be a surveyor and discovered that being a storeowner was not successful. It was as a store-owner that he got his reputation for...More

I'll say less about the park itself and more about the adjacent campground. We stayed two nights and had a lovely time. The campground is quiet, friendly, and was remarkably empty. They do not take reservations, but have lots of sites and the staffer I...More

This summer marked our second visit to Lincoln’s New Salem. As a family, we love history and anything about Lincoln, and this park does not disappoint. A walk through the small, well-organized museum is essential before strolling through the village, because depending upon the day...More

What should have been a fun and educational experience turned into a huge disappointment. I was so excited to share what I remembered as as a most informative and enjoyable park with my grandchildren. However, there were so few buildings open and only a handful...More

We spent the morning walking through the village. The homes are well labled as to lived where. The school seems so small. There were a few volunteers in costume around to answer questions. The visitors center is nice and clean. It gives you a perspective...More

Great place to step back in time and see what living conditions were like when Lincoln came thru and lived there in the 1800s. Have visited the park many, many times. Well worth the visit!

Authentic look at frontier America in the 1830s. Very interesting look at everyday life in a young America.

Plan to spend at least a half day here. Visitor center has lots of historical information, even Mr. Lincoln's actual surveying tools! Be sure to watch the 18-minute video, definitely worth the time. Then head to the village itself, a wonderful reproduction of how it...More

The village is right next to the parking lot. I don't know exactly how long the village itself is. You can stop at each house/building and read about what it was used for. We went off season, so none of the buildings were... More
