Enjoy the cool breezes and negative ions of the 3/4 mile rocky beach at the Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve. You need to hike or bike down from the parking lot. There are two toilets in the lot, but none at the beach. Bring your own...More

I frequent this preserve walking, bike riding and by car. There are many areas to enjoy nature and the sites throughout the preserve. All seasons provide nature areas which can be enjoyed alone or with family and friends.

Take your camera. Bird watching and panoramic views make this fun for taking walks and hikes. Construction was underway earlier in summer but better now.

This is a favorite walk of ours. Unfortunately at this point the Forest Preserve and other land preservation groups are doing extensive repairs to the shore (necessary), which will impede walking to the beach. However the beautiful open space, paths, wildflowers, oak groves are all...More

A short walk to a beautiful view of Lake Michigan and then to the lake itself. Along the way several reminders of Ft. Sheridan's role training our soldiers. Longer trails take you through prairies and savannas.

Free parking and easily walkable access via a gentle trail to the beach and lake in Historic Fort Sheridan. One of the many outstanding free things to do in Lake County.

Although swimming is prohibited due to what is considered potential remaining live ordnance from WWII, and although a great place to walk your dog but no off leash permitted....it has a long trail to walk your dog, I sneak mine into the water at times...More

Over the many acres through savannah and woodlands, up to huge beautiful bluffs overlooking Lake Michigan, this is a great walk. Many trails as long as 3 miles through a variety of terrain. Several beach access points and walking along the lake is lovely. If...More
