As far as a train station, the building's architecture is worth seeing. It is under renovation and was quite warm during this hot September weekend, but, plenty to eat, enough places to sit, not very many employees on hand but it was a sunday. Comfortable...More

The Grand Hall is lovely to sit in and people watch while you wait for your train. The soaring ceilings and architecture are stunning. Maneuvering around the station is very easy and employees are always helpful and friendly. There are a number of decent food...More

Not as big as grand central but still a very impressive station. It is being renovated at the moment which is good.

We used the Amtrak station for a recent trip on the Empire Builder to Spokane and back. We took the MI Wolverine train and transferred to the Empire builder for a wonderful journey across the northern route to Washington

Even if you are not taking Amtrak or Metra the Union Station is worth a visit to see the grand hall. The splendor of old alive today.

I'm always early when I travel because so many things can go wrong. 1.5 or 2 hours will be good but 1 hour may be too short. If you are checking bags I'd allow 1.5 or 2 hours for sure.
