This museum tells the story of Wallace, Idaho. It is such and interesting place. So if your not into trains go anyway as it is more about history and how people lived in the 1800's in this mining town. All info well laid out and explained. Such a deal at $5 a head. Very informative and people working there very friendly and helpful.

Loved the museum. We had the best guides telling us about the history of the railroad, the museum, and the area. The museum was packed with information and exhibits. Beautiful area also and I would like to go back and spend more time.

Very pretty building and quite comfortable on a 90 degree day. The volunteers (staff?) had fun stories and history to share. They clearly love what they do and seem excited to engage visitors in whatever interests us the most. For my husband, it was calling the ancient phone with his iPhone and having a conversation. For me, it was the fancy old steamer trunk and stories about a wealthy gentleman's travels. Enjoy this place. No admission fee and there are nice places to sit for a break.

Their website claims that they are open daily in the summer, but they were definitely NOT open when we visited at 2pm on Monday July 22.
And NO SIGN anywhere indicating when their real hours might be!!
So you take your chances with this one! They’ll apparently only be open when they damn well please!

I wasn't overly impressed with this depot. The agent's office was fascinating and well presented. My son can now say he's used a candlestick phone. But the rest of the depot was a mish-mash of stuff. Some railroad related, some not. I did not see a single reference that described what the rooms upstairs were originally used for (living quarters? clerk offices?) Lots of pictures on the walls with captions but not actually organized to tell a story. A model railroad is in one room, but no connection to Wallace or to the Northern Pacific.

The staff is so fun, friendly and helpful. This museum has many cool artifacts. We didn't have mush time to explore, so we plan to come back next month and bring the whole family for the weekend!

Especially interesting if you are a railway/railroad aficionado. The staff are very knowledgeable. Covers a great deal of the interesting history of railroading in the Northwest.

Great tour given by John. What a time the railroads lived in.
Some local history is in the museum, too. The old phone still rings!

We stopped at the Depot and was very impressed with the restoration. The upstairs living quarters were very interesting, and the exhibits were well done.
