As attractions go, this one is "short and sweet." As other commenters noted, all it is, is a manhole cover in the middle of the street with a outline of a miner, and the words "Center of the Universe" around the perimeter. There is also a sign on a nearby curb pointing to it. Take a picture and you are done.
But it is unusual, and if the unusual intrigues you, then it's a "must see." It is not the only "Center of the Universe," though. I know of at least one other located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. But that's a different kind of attraction-sound related.
The other thing that makes the one in Wallace inviting is the town itself. This is a tourist friendly town: Picturesque, plenty of interesting shops, old buildings, a nice tourist visitor center at the west end of town, unique museums, and easy parking. We've stopped at Wallace more than once in our travels. Never disappoints.

OK, this is a joke, but it's well worth stopping to take the picture. If you go inside the store on the southwest corner it has the mayor's proclamation that declares the center of Wallace to be the Center of the Universe. It goes on to say "you can't prove it isn't so it must be"....
People in town are so considerate they actually stop traffic to let you take a photo.
I'm glad I stopped, it's definitely a conversation piece!!!

I read that Wallace declared this is the center of the universe because who is to say it's not? Good enough for me! This makes a cute photo op.

Best visited early evening. Very little vehicle traffic. Photo op at best. Nice little town. Strolled to dinner, chatted with unmet friends.

The place everyone takes a picture by just to say they have been to the center of the Universe. It's in the middle of the street so you can't linger there.

Never thought I would be at the Center of the Universe in my life time. And now I have and did not get run over by a car or truck. Not sure about the scientific proof but who cares I know the people of Wallace to be very honest. Wish I had a button that says I was there.

Watch out for cars - this manhole is in the middle of the street (obviously). I love how Wallace is the Center of the Universe and this manhole proves it! Just another fun thing about Wallace, ID!
