Entry to the display shaped like a mine entrance. Step inside and the displays make you feel like you are in a mine. Dark and close. The equipment displays are awesome. The mine ‘maps’ are beautiful 3d before computers. Displays dealing with the disasters also well done. Military history- Iron Riders.

There are so many cool things in this museum. We arrived late in the afternoon and didn't have much time. We loved Wallace so much we plan to return next month with the whole family and spend an entire weekend!

The tour of the mine was so informative and fun to do. The guild really knew his history and was fun to talk to. The trolley ride to the mine was great and was given great history lesson. Loved it all and would go again.

We stopped at the museum on a recommendation from Dave at the tourist info building. His wife runs the museum. It was very interesting. We are from Idaho and didn't know anything about Wallace. We learned a lot about mining and about Wallace. Didn't know Dante's Peak was filmed there! While we were there a family came in and we saw that they offer a scavenger hunt for the kids to do. Over all it was a great time.

This is well worth the price of admission. Like many smaller museums, this one has been well thought-out, and is stuffed with enough interesting exhibits to fill an afternoon (although you could probably do the highlights in a hour or so).
Staff was very friendly, and quick to recommend other places around town too.

Wallace is “The Center of the Universe,” a mining town from which came 1.3 billion ounces of silver. This small museum details the working conditions and how ore was extracted from the earth. The work was grueling, but I imagine the rewards were substantial enough to keep workers here for so many years. I highly recommend this museum, if you have an interest in mining. While at the Visitor Center, I spied a pawn shop across the street. There, I purchase for my sister an Art Deco silver bracelet as a memento.

Every once in a while you stumble on a small town gem and this is a great little museum. Can't remember the entrance fee but if anything was minimal. You will learn a whole bunch about the local mining in the area with interesting anecdotes. A great way to spend an hour or two when in Wallace.

I stopped here after reading an interpretive sign on the Interstate about the fire of 1910 and it said to stop at this museum for more info. I was glad I did as this museum has a lot to offer. There is a 20 minute video "North Idaho's Silver Legacy", a walk through exhibit "Mining Experience", a gift shop with excellent selection of books about the area, public restrooms, a tourist info center, and some of the friendliest staff you could want.

I particularly found the info on the Sunshine Mine Disaster that killed 91 of 173 men in 1972 and the new safety regulations implemented as a result of the deaths interesting. Museum also has exhibits on the two major motion pictures filmed in Wallace-Heaven's Gate (1979) and Dante's Peak (1996).

Admission is reasonable-$3 per person or $7 per family-and the museum can be seen in an hour or so depending on your interests.

Great visit to this mining museum. I had no idea about silver mining before I visited...but now have a better appreciation on what it took to get the ore out and made into my silver dollars, and necklace. What impressed me the most was my knowledgeable guide, Wally, and the fact that many of the machines were actually in working condition and were demonstrated. Don't miss this when in Wallace.

We enjoyed wandering through the museum, but the smaller kids didn't have much to look at. The newer displays that have a realistic set up were great. It was still in process, so would love to see more.
