About
Castletown Golf Links is a unique championship golf course situated on the Langness Peninsula in the Isle of Man, surrounded by the sea on all three sides. The Isle of Man occupies just about the same area as Greater London - no more than 33 miles long and less than half that distance at its widest point. At Castletown golf is mostly played well above sea level, with views at every hole of tumbling cliffs, rocky outcrops, sweeping bays and, of course, the ever present sea. Yet the playing conditions are pure links golf - tight-knit, quick draining turf and smooth, fast running greens, with gorse, whispy fescues, and heather defining fairways. The original Castletown Club was formed in 1892 and holes were laid out on the present site in the early 1900's by Old Tom Morris, widely regarded as the modern pioneer of golf. Just a few years before he had confirmed to a potential client: "My fee for laying out a green is One Pound Sterling and travelling expenses", so the exercise was not too costly! Following the Second World War, the course was re-designed and restored by the very well-respected architect, Mackenzie Ross, and it is that course which is in play today. With water on all sides and two magnificent bays carving swathes along each flank, it is a dramatic and wonderfully natural site for a golf course.

This course is situated on a peninsula. I did not play the course, but visited the clubhouse restaurant for lunch. Afterwards we walked around part of the course hoping to take some photos illustrated by the excellent club website. In my opinion the course is certainly not of sufficient standard to justify a green fee of £160 per round.

As locals we look out for new places to eat... And found a real gem with the bistro in the club house. Husband and wife duo work hard and delivery quality food at a fresh cooked pace. If you are in a rush (and why would you be at the end of a peninsula miles from anywhere?) then sloooow down!

Excellent food, good sized portions nice coffee and tasty pudding. Overall, good quality at a fair price.

Young waiting on staff need a little training ( carrying four glasses by putting your fingers inside is not so good) and maybe some nibbles, or refresh drink orders if you expect people to wait 30+ minutes...

Went here for a family lunch. Really tasty, home-made food at a great price. The lunch deal, at only £7.50, included a starter followed by an open sandwich - we had smoked salmon and roast pork.Lovely fresh home-made scones and coffee afterwards. Super customer service - will definitely be back.

Should you find yourself on the island with some spare time, stopping to play the links at Castletown is an absolute must. We went with the two-day pass option (which is slightly more than the price of one round, but allows you to play as many times as you prefer). The views and course layout are second to none. On a sunny weekend afternoon in the US, you'd see groups stacked back to back on a course of this caliber.

On the island, you'd be hard pressed to see more than 5 other groups while out, which makes the experience that much more personalized. Jed and the group at the pro-shop are top-caliber. There won't be a visit I make to the Island in the future which does not include a stop here!

The club house in this course is almost old fashioned in that it is normal size. I never really understood the mania for oversized function rooms as club houses that has grown up over the past few years. Castletown has what you want. A lovely welcoming feel combined with lovely welcoming staff and nice food. I am a pretty poor high handicap golfer and I was playing with someone who plays off 8. It is a testament to what a great course this is that we were both able to enjoy the round equally and he only beat me by one stroke! The scenery is amazing and three or four of the holes are as good as you get to play anywhere. If you are on the Isle of Man do not miss the chance to play this terrific course.

Many thanks to Ged and all the staff of this exceptional golf course, our society played the course Sunday 19th July, all our members thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing this magnificent course, our members handicaps range from 10 to 28, not one person complained which truly reflects our enjoyable days golf,
We have added Castletown to our calendar for next early next year (we're based in Liverpool)

Once again many thanks from all our members

Just got back from the Isle of man. We stayed in Douglas and played golf at Mount Murray and Castletown golf links. Both courses were in excellent nick, and the people who run them were very welcoming and friendly. I thought the pick was castletown. It was in excellent condition and the greens fabulous. The two course are a real test especially with the wind blowing. I went to the Open at Hoylake last year and would say Castletown is on par with it. The views are breathtaking, and the fairways are miles of untouched turf, obviously looked after with a high degree of pride. Ged in the pro shop was very informative and looked after us. We were a society of 16 who marvelled at the course. Afterwards we had a nice pint and the best chicken and chips I have had in years. All I can say is this is a place you have to put on your bucket list, don't miss it.

We played this magnificent course on a lay day during the Isle of Man TT Races. We were blessed with magnificent weather. The course was simply stunning & as this was our first links experience, we were amazed by the different vistas along the course. It was challenging & the spectacular scenery on the back 9 was breathtaking. Loved the last 3 holes along the cliffs back to the Clubhouse. Staff were the friendliest & most relaxed we have seen in our travels outside Australia. Thank you for a fantastic experience. Hopefully we will return in the future.

Our visit to Castletown Links was the highlight of a great 3 day tour arranged for us by IOM Golf Tours. The course is stunning, and the welcome and facilities were excellent. Highly recommended.
