Great attention to detail.
May 2021
I hesitate a little to give it a lower rating than it deserves. As in previous reviews there was the issue of electrical problems that plagued the layout. No trains were running. the hall lighting was very low and dark. There was no entry fee because of the issues. Donations could be made instead. It is an impressive display albeit it is in need of a good restoration. It is really a memorial to the gentleman who had this vision and the work that went into building this layout with the detail involved. It is impressive never the less. The hope is that this attraction will be updated and improved upon to bring it back to its former glory. Even in it's current state it should still be visited.

If you like model railroads or train sets this place is for you!

This is a pretty impressive model train set up. My older parents enjoyed it and even my teens thought it was cool.

If you love model trains, this is stop for you. You can see all the attention to detail that went into this display. The trains were not running while we were there but still worth the stop.

Wonderful display
Dec 2020
We spent at least an hour looking at this intricate train display. There were two trains running and the entry fee was decreased because of that. The original owner and builder of it has passed away but the new owner seems dedicated to getting improvements made to it.

Make sure you do the scavenger hunt because not only was it fun, but it will make you look at the little details that you might ordinarily miss.

We are senior citizens and we thoroughly enjoyed this display. It is 50 feet long and has so many different scenes contained in it. There is also a second floor loft where you can get a different perspective.

Neglected Dioarama
Dec 2020
Located adjacent to a hotel, I believe they share the operation. Charlemagne's Kingdom seems run as an extra income opportunity. I've been to a number or train and miniature exhibitions in my travels and this one ranks pretty far down the list. These types of attractions typically have a passionate owner or a maintenance crew. This attraction appears to have neither. As a result, the condition of the one (large) room display is not in the best state. There a lots of toppled figures, objects that should be moving that aren't, and, most importantly, a scarce amount of working trains. There were only two trains working when I visited, but there should clearly be many more running. That's kind of silly. With the $6 per person, you'd hope they put that money back in to the exhibit. The miniature set taken from afar is pretty and impressive, but when you look up close, you can see the neglect. All that being said, with the surprising lack of quality attractions in Helen, you may need to add the Kingdom to your schedule to fill out the day. This could easily be a 4/5 if they took care of it.

Great train display
Dec 2020
We were disappointed that COVID canceled the Southern Christmas Show in NC this year, and one of our faves about it is the train display. This was even better and a great alternative as it was bigger. Since we were guests of the Heidi, we got in free but gave a donation anyway. I believe right now it's $6 otherwise. Friendly staff. You get to look on your own though. So you can take your time. We were at least inside for 1/2 an hour just enjoying looking at it all on the bottom level and taking in the details. Then the top level lets you see other things from above. They supply a scavenger hunt if you want to play. I hope this place sticks around. The person who made it passed away, but I'm glad the hotel bought it.

treat for my 3 year old
Nov 2020
I took my son (3.5 years old) because he loves trains. It was great for him to see and the scenes they created were great. The size of the display fills the whole room. Dont go expecting multiple rooms or views. Staff was nice and my kid loved it.

Interesting model train display
Nov 2020
This was an intersting model train display on the grounds of the Heidi Motel. The trains were not running so entrance fee was by donation. They said they were going to be overhauled. I hope they do because watching the trains run would have been Spent 15-20 minutes there

Our visit was okay but nothing overly exciting. It is free to get in, but we did give a donation, since that is how the attraction is maintained. I will say that the amount of time and effort that was put into the miniature display is impressive. There was only one train running the day we visited, so that could be the reason we stayed only 5-10 minutes.
