Good Camping Site
Oct 2020
The park is commendable for Native American influence and proximity to Helen, a historic town with European flair.

Great view
Jun 2021
Very long walk, up hill all the way on slippery rocks. The walk way is narrow too many people close to you. Once you reach the top the view was great.

Big state park that is full of camping options.

We didn't camp here, just stopped to eat our lunch between visits of Hardman Farms and Anna Ruby Falls. Tons of folks camping and having a great time.

Fishing and exploring with the family. Caught some fish, explored the shoreline. Seemed well maintained.

So much to do!
Apr 2021 • Couples
What a great park! We drove around a while to check things out, and then parked to do the Lake Loop Trail. About 2 1/2 miles long with a wide, well marked path that literally follows the edge of the lake. Mostly pretty flat, but there were some areas that had dirt steps, rocks, and roots. So definitely walking or hiking shoes. Not great for strollers. Mostly shaded. There is also a zip line course that zigzagged across the lake which looked like a lot of fun. We didn’t do that this time, but will definitely do it when we come back.

Nice hike
Apr 2021 • Couples
Visited after our trip to Anna Falls and hiked the Lake trail. Not a real challenging walk but found the trail to be somewhat inadequately marked in several spots. Never less than join a beautiful day in and the Lake was picturesque with many people fishing.

Fantastic Park but Needs Trail Markings
Mar 2021 • Couples
Our lakeside barrel cabin was the highlight. It was clean, well-equipped, and close enough to the lake to hear the frogs and ducks. The park has a nice variety of trails.

It was nice having access to WiFi in the the very nice park lodge. If it’s not too complicated and expensive, it would be nice to have WiFi in the cabins too.

Our main recommendation, however, is to add trail blazes and mile markers to the Smith Creek Trail. It follows a 5 mile long route to Anna Ruby Falls, and as one decides along the way whether to continue for the full 10-mile round trip or turn back sooner, it is helpful to know how much ground one has already covered. Other than the very beginning and end of the trail, there are absolutely zero trail blazes along the way. When one is out in the middle of nowhere, it’s nice to have a little reassurance along the way that “yes, you’re still on the correct trail.” When you see the numerous trail blazes along the Lake Trail, a trail that is impossible to lose because it simply skirts the lake the whole way, it is puzzling that no one has considered how much greater a need there is for blazes (and mile markers) along the much more isolated and challenging Smith Creek Trail.

We look forward to a return trip one day soon.

Lake loop hike
Feb 2021 • Couples
A favorite of ours is the lake loop hike. Not too much elevation which works for our 13 year old dog. Trails are well maintained and drain pretty well.

The best
Feb 2021 • Friends
Stayed at the lodging. Rooms are large, shower pressure is strong, toilet flush is strong, ac is very cold. The park has so many activities to offer. Staff was very helpful. Will stay here again.
