Basic Mining
Aug 2021 • Family
Your basic mining and panning experience. I liked having several bucket options in sizes and even expected finds. Our family bought one bucket of gemstones and one bucket of fossils. Our sons enjoyed looking for treasures.

If getting dirt in your vehicle is a concern, wear tennis shoes. Surrounding the sleuth boxes is all sand. We had sandals on and our feet were covered in sand with no good want to get excess off. Not looking forward to the drive back home with all the sand left in our car.

The store was not kept up. Large amounts of dust on the shelves. This was off putting when considering items for purchase.

Must see
Aug 2021 • Family
Must see!!! Very knowledgeable, we spoke a lot about gemstones and learned a lot. You can find really good local gemstone at this shop. Good quality rubies and other stones for a reasonable price.

Rubies, Emeralds and Sapphires, Oh My!
Oct 2020
Rustic setting filled with "treasures" - all kinds of rocks, and fossils for purchase, as well as "gems" ready for mounting. Dave was friendly and informative and helpful getting us set up. I asked to find rubies and emeralds and he set me up with that bucket for $16. I did indeed find rubies/emeralds and sapphires, but would have liked the bucket less "staged." Maybe find an odd other rock or two. Literally could have dumped the bucket and just pulled out all the stones. There were lots so you get your money worth. They can polish and set stones at their other location - also a big tourist event.

Hiking Trail

A very good hike. The pay off at the end is worth it. Not too steep, good for multiple levels of hikers.

Fun for the Whole Family
Jun 2020 • Family
Right outside of Helen, you can find Dukes Creek Mines. The owner was very friendly. There are different size buckets for everyone. We each got a gallon. These buckets are salted with big chunks of stones so that everyone gets quite a bit. The kids enjoyed it but liked the mines in franklin, NC better that were not so salted and you found uncut gems that came right from franklin. However, the kids had a great time and we would go back. Got boiled peanuts to go. They were good.

End of day sifting sand for gems.
Feb 2020 • Couples
Sue and I sifted two different buckets. She found several rubies worth keeping, while I found a really nice amethyst crystal and some unusual semi-precious stones worth keeping. We plan to Go back tomorrow to consult with the gem cutter. Hopefully he can tighten the diamond in Sue's favorite ring.

Visited this treasure of a business during a ladies getaway. Had a blast. Owner very knowledgeable and was kind enough to patiently identify all types of stones found for each of the six ladies in our group. One of favorite activities of our trip! A+++

We went here with a group of kids. The staff was amazing and very patient with us because we had a large group of people. I would highly reccomend it for individuals and families.

The kiddo loved it
Jul 2019 • Family
My son loves mining for gems so we've been to several spots like this one. What we liked was that we could buy a separate pail of just fossils and another one of just rubies, sapphires and emeralds. Small buckets were $12 and $15. The negative for us was the sand sifter is big and clunky so hard for him to do it himself without spilling it. There are fans and a covered area outside so a nice place to make a quick stop in the heat.
