Nice location; parking is not expenive but I'd recommend getting there early! Popular because it's lovely! And, God knows I love the beach!Visited June 2022Written 9 February 2023
- Vivian M1 contributionJust AverageNot sure why St. Pete Beach has such high reviews. We went for the day and public parking was a bad experience as paying for parking was difficult because machine was not working and zone number was worn off the machine. There was a homeless person sleeping on bench with his backpack at restrooms and the restrooms were dark inside. There are no showers for spraying the sand off of you and no lifeguards. The beach sand area was wide a definite plus. Never will go for the day again but would like to try staying in one of their accommodations.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 February 2023
- Cherry_WonderdogNew England3,142 contributionsVery niceVery nice beach facing the Atlantic ocean in St. Petersburg, Florida. It’s one of the nicest in the area, with white sand, blue ocean waves, and plenty of sun (except when it’s cloudy). There are a few too many hotels and condo complexes for my taste, but that’s Florida for you. If you don’t like it, try another state.Visited February 2023Written 23 February 2023
- Dylan L10 contributionsA Nice Florida BeachI went here last week with my brother and two of our friends while we were staying in St. Petersburg. It is a beautiful beach, good temperature waters and nice surrounding buildings. Parking is tough and sometimes you will find “Florida Man” in the wild, but it’s a great place for relaxing, swimming and other fun activities on a warm sunny day.Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 19 March 2023

- Phuong NJacksonville, Florida960 contributionsAnother beautiful beach to add into my 4C beaches - Calm, Clean, Clear and Color! The water is clear . You can see fish swimming around you and on the top. Beautiful weather in an early summer day. It has wooden walkway to the beach, a clean restroom and parking lot. If you don’t have chairs and umbrella, you can rent. Very convenient! Will be back definitely!Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 May 2023
- Mark GCatonsville, Maryland3,279 contributionsPerfectSt Pete Beach is a beautiful 4 mile crescent shaped beach with incredibly gentle clear water with powder white sand. Normally our mid to late May visits have the Gulf Of Mexico water in the 82 degree range, but for whatever reason it was 85-87 degrees during our week. The surrounding Tampa Bay coastal area was in the midst of an extreme drought which could possibly be a part of the reason since the rest of the gulf was shown on TV had temperatures around 82. Air temperatures hovered between 88-90 all week. The water was so warm we walked right in without a flinch and there were fish everywhere. One of the other guests staying at the Sirata stated they even saw a Manatee close to shore, something we have never seen here. No wonder it's constantly rated as one of America's best beaches. There are also a lot of great beach bars along this strip.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 May 2023

- Cherry_WonderdogNew England3,142 contributionsBeautiful and serious warm water temperatures! We pitched a beach tent here during an afternoon during one of August’s heat waves, thereby successfully preventing third-degree burns and stage four melanoma. Our bouts in the ocean water were long and extended, probably because water temperatures soared into the 90s. We’re talking bathwater baby! The beach was delightful, sand soft and powdery, with neighbors respectful of others. The only thing missing at St. Pete Beach for us were vendors to sell you pina coladas which, of course, can sometimes be problematic, too. Our only gripe during our visit was the wind, because it blew away our half-dome tent and required us to rebuild and reinforce under the hot sun. Still, it’s hard to blame St. Pete Beach! ;-)Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 4 September 2023

The beach is packed. But we can’t ask for the opposite: it’s a beautiful beach! The rocks make it even more beautiful! The water is warm, clear and full of small fish. The sand is white and soft. A lot of shells can be found. There are some tents, I guess for everyone to use. There are also volleyball nets.

I went to St. Pete Beach with my family for a vacation getaway, we loved the beach. The sand is soft and powdery white, comfortable to walk on. The water is nice and warm in the Gulf which is good for me, I hate cold water for swimming. We were able to snorkel a little and saw a lot of different fish. Overall just a beautiful beach and we all enjoyed it. Beautiful sunsets.

At the tradewinds resort, right on the beach, there is a tiki hut, that has Scuppers water sports, you can rent JetSki’s and have a blessed in the Gulf or, you can take a little tour. Our tour guide was Josh. He was absolutely so fantastic. we take the JetSki’s right off the beach and go out about a half a mile and we were racing them for a little while.. then Josh gave the hand signals, and we followed his JetSki over to shell island. It was absolutely beautiful. We parked the JetSki’s and were walking around the beach and the shallow water. He then brought us around shell island to the other side near a sand bar where we got off the jet skis again and m swam
In the water . Then we rode back - the whole thing took over an hour and the reason I liked this so much was that we got to actually explore and see things that we didn’t even know was there. Jessica, Bella, and Chris were very helpful in explaining the prices what’s going on and the website where under 18-year-olds can take an online JetSki safety test which is I believe 25 questions, and you can sign all your waivers also online. IThere is a short video to watch on JetSki safety. This is fun to do with a group- but they only have 3 jet skis so maximum
Of 6 people can go at a time - it’s a little pricey- $200 per jet ski - but it’s so worth the experience beciase it was so much fun and honestly 1 hour is plenty of time— also they have a storage compartment on the JetSki so you can safely put in your money, valuables, cell phones. Nothing gets wet. I suggest wearing sunglasses that are secured because they could fly off, but sunglasses are great because there is water spraying in your face quite a bit and definitely wear a bathing suit and they supply life vests there and again we were so happy we got Josh because he was just so great.

Saint Pete is always amazing to visit. There’s always a lot to do or you can do nothing and just hang on the beach. Definitely the place to take family

We got up super early and came here whilst in Florida to watch the sunrise based on everyone’s recommendations. It was absolutely incredible! Barely anyone else on the beach and the sea was beautifully warm with stunning fresh shells that had been washed up overnight. We literally watched the sun rise over us whilst a large seabird walked by. It was magical. Couldn’t recommend it enough!

What is everyone's preferred airport? Tampa or PIE? Is is best to have a rental car to get around. We are staying at Mariner Beach Club.
Mark G
Catonsville, MD3 279 contributions
We always fly Southwest into Tampa. It is a great airport to get in and out of. It's about a 35 minute drive and we always get a rental car because there are so many places to visit/ things to do, restaurants etc. If you are just staying at your hotel for the most part I guess Lyft/Uber is fine. PIE is closer to St Pete Beach and might be a 20-25 minute drive. Never flown into PIE since Southwest doesn't.
I’m seeing that st Pete beach isn’t safe. What’s the real deal

I’m not familiar with St Petersburg but I’d like to stay somewhere that’s not too crowded but close to restaurants. Redington? Treasure Island? Madeira? Broken Island? Any thoughts? Baha Shores?

We recently stayed in Treasure Island at Tropic Terrace and then the Bay Palms Waterside Resort. Both were excellent, not crowded because they are small. There are many high rises in the area. Tropic Terrace is in Treasure Island and the Bay Palms is 4 miles down the road in St. Petersburg.
I see that dogs used to not be allowed on the beach, but when looking up dog-friendly beaches St. Pete was listed. Has that changed? Anyone have any recent experience taking their dog to the public beach? Thanks!

From what I know, there are no public restrooms right on St. Pete Beach.
But in St. Pete Beach area there are bars and restaurants, that are located on the beach, they have direct, public access from the beach, and they also have restrooms. For instance, Paradise Grille at 6850 Beach Plaza or Jimmy's Beach Bar and Bistro at 6200 Gulf Blvd - these two are at the northern part of St. Pete Beach.
Further south , there are some hotels and resorts with bars and restaurants, that also have public access, but I am not sure about hotel regulations, as far as the public use of their restrooms. But I imagine, if you are at a hotel bar - you'd be able to use a restroom.
St. Pete Beach stretches from north to south for over 4 miles, down to Pass a Grille, that yes, does have another Paradise Grille Bar at 900 Gulf Way, with public restrooms.
Enjoy your visit!

I am thinking of having a family vacation at St. Pete's beach. We are thinking of going in July or August...Is it terribly hot and humid and is there a problem with no see ums on the beach during the summer months...

We had a wonderful time at the end of October. I am not familiar with being on that beach in July or August.
