Palm trees surround this famous Avenue with interesting art deco buildings and lots of hotels. undoubtedly many tourist spots amongst bars and restaurants.

I guess it's all part of the cycle certain urban areas go through. Many shops and restaurants are boarded up, or empty building in need of a face lift or TLC. Doesn't have the luster of Ocean Drive or the Art Deco area.

We stayed mid-beach on Collins Ave and it was the best of both worlds. It is a quiet location, but close enough to south beach by walking of by the free shuttles. We always felt safe walking around Lots of hotels/restaurants.

Collins avenue is parallel to the busy Ocean Avenue strip but worlds away. I avoided walking on Collins avenue as it was run down, dirty and homeless people were setting up camp on nearly every corner.

Nice walk, impressive hotels, among all the Loews, built in Art Deco style. Noisy because of the traffic, kind of city feeling. Worth, anyway, anytime of the day.

A trip to Miami Beach is not complete unless you walk along Collins Avenue. Some of the hotels such as Fountainblue are part of the city's history.

No reason to worry- at least not at daytime and during night time I would try to have company. Other than that, I personal would not be worried at all. It is the party zone and you may meet some unusual people. However... More

There are affordable restaurants in the area. I'd check with your hotel concierge for suggestions on restaurants within walking distance that are in your price range.
