I have just returned from an absolutely fabulous morning at Kaskazi Horse Safaris. The reserve is situated around 45 minutes from our hotel in Arusha, we arrived at 8am and were welcomed by the very friendly staff. The stables are immaculate and the horses are very well kept. Good quality riding hats are provided, and chaps too if required. There was just myself and my friend on the ride which completely exceeded our expectations, we had not expected to see such an abundance of wild animals and to get so close to them! Our guide explained that the horses graze in the park and therefore the other animals are not afraid of them. We saw zebra, gerenuk, gazelles, wildebeest, antelope, dik dik, monkeys and many more. Our super guide paced the ride perfectly to our riding ability, we spent time hacking gently whilst watching and photographing the wildlife and finished with several great canters. The park is stunningly beautiful and there are fabulous views of Mount Meru too. The ride is suitable for all abilities including beginners and the horses are beautifully behaved.

I would absolutely recommend this ride to anyone, what a wonderful way to see Tanzania!

The Kaskazi Horse Safari in Arusha National Park is an adventure like no other. Imagine riding through wild, ever-changing terrain—one minute you’re weaving between forests, the next, you’re crossing open plains, with wildlife all around you. Every day was a new thrill, and the nights? Crystal-clear skies packed with stars. It's an experience that sticks with you.

The crew running the safari were top-notch. Not only did they take care of everything, but they were genuinely fun to be around. They added a personal touch that made the trip even better.

If you’re confident in the saddle, this is a bucket-list trip you can’t miss. If you’re newer to riding, a few lessons beforehand will help you make the most of it. Either way, it’s worth every cent.

Lekinyi, my guide, was so knowledgeable and we had an amazing two hour ride. We were so close to the animals! The eland was the only one I saw on my entire two week trip. We trotted and cantered which was such a thrill. The property is semi-enclosed but enormous and I felt very safe (no predators) but had a sense of no boundaries. Some of my group who didn’t go were very disappointed they didn’t when they saw my pictures. Would go again.

The horseback excursion was nice in itself. A big part of the experience comes down to the chance encounters with animals. In our case, we saw zebras, wildebeests, monkeys, deer, antelopes, and some bird species. However, I have some reservations about the service: our guide, Lekinyi, didn’t even lift his eyes from his phone to say goodbye at the end. Tourists spending $200 each for a couple of hours on horseback might deserve a bit more attention. Moreover, we had to book through a tour operator because we never received a response from the contact form on the website.

Hi there, thank you for your feedback and I’ll pass it onto likini and the crew. Pls let me know what your tour operator charged you as it’s 120 usd per person and not 200 so I worry they overcharged you ? Thanks

Very cool experience! This was a guided horse back ride through a private game reserve. While we also did the full on safari in the wild, we got much closer to zebra, gazelle, wildebeest and elan on this tour than we ever did in the safari vehicles when in the national parks. The tour guide spoke little english, but enough to keep us safe and give us directions. He also let us trot/canter versus just walk the entire time.

We have never experienced a team as dedicated to creating a life-adventure as the Kaskazi horse safari team built and led by Jo. She was personally involved (as she clearly has been for 12(?) years) in every small part of our family’s week on horseback safari, our first. 10 guests were supported by 19 staff and 17 top-rank horses—most thoroughbreds that had been thoroughly trained for the bush. Marvelous!
The staff gave the horses and riders top care and were super-in-tune with the smallest changes in each. Tara’s deep horse-sense experience boggled my comprehension. Three grooms cared for the horses behind the scenes. Our tents (sleeping and separate shower/toilet for each guest/couple) were set up, cleaned, moved to new sites (with our personal gear). The facilities team never failed.
The food and drink was great. Nothing lacked and all was creative. For a moving camp safari, I don’t see how it could be better.
Our week safari traveled between Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru in Arusha National Park. The variety of terrain (forests, plains, hills, desert(?), bog) was super cool to see and ride. Jo and Tara led the way perfectly.
Animals? Yup. And from horseback, they were uniquely special. What was better? Horses or animals? Hard to tell. The gallops on thoroughbreds across the plains…pretty hard to beat.

Well what can I say besides the ride went beyond my expectations. I loved every minute of it, the guide was excellent and had a wealth of knowledge and was always engaging with all the rides. The horses were fantastic, as I was a beginner I did not know what to expect but my horse put my mind at ease, she knew exactly what to do and I felt very safe.
I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a unique experience.

It was amazing, especially during sunset! You don’t even need to be an experienced horse rider. The landscape was also really pretty and so are the wild animals!
