About
The SEA LIFE TRUST Cornish Seal Sanctuary is a charity that rescues and rehabilitates grey seal pups from around the Cornish coastline. Each season, the Sanctuary rehabilitates over 70 seal pups that have been rescued for various reasons, from malnourishment to being separated from their mum. The Sanctuary also provides a permanent home to animals that need special care from our team of marine animal experts. When visiting the Sanctuary, you can experience wonderful marine animals up close and personal and learn all about their individual stories.

    Fantastic place to visit
This Seal sanctuary is amazing, every member of staff obviously feels honoured to be able to work with these incredible animals and the enthusiasm and care shown from each staff member proved that. I was so impressed with the beaver enclosure and the work being done with them. A special shout out to Chantel on reception who was so welcoming and helpful throughout our visit-thank you- you are a star! I have worked with numerous species of animals throughout my life and I am very critical of how animals are kept in captivity, I am a big believer in wild animals being wild and free but for those that would not survive without human intervention this sanctuary is a wonderful place for them to be loved and grow old. Highly recommended - seeing Ray is worth the entry fee alone! Keep up the good work.
Thank you for your lovely review, we appreciate it. I'll make sure Chantel sees your feedback.

Wonderful location for a truly lovely place to visit
Our 3rd visit to this wonderful place. It’s lovely to see the seals being nursed back to health and given a lovely forever home if necessary. Beautiful location and very experienced and well informed staff. Nothing too much for them.
Thank you so much for your support of us with your repeat visits, we genuinely appreciate it.

Amazing place that does Amazing job caring for the animals.
We go every year and enjoy it every time. We do the Breakfast with the Seals and get to feed a different group every year. The Staff are extremely knowledgeable and always happy to answer questions. The views are amazing and the animals are clearly very well cared for.
Thank you for your 5-star review of our Breakfast with the Seals experience and for your support for us with your repeat visits with us.

    Well worth a visit!
My husband and I had an excellent day out at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary as he is interested in conservation and environmental science and both of us just love seals! We thought that the conservation work that is being carried out here is both inspiring and important. All the staff were really friendly and helpful but in particular we would like to thank Jack and Tom for giving up a lot of their time to talk to us today and for teaching us a lot about the complex relationship between beavers and their habitats. What a great day out - thank you Cornish Seal Sanctuary.
Thank you for your 5-star review and lovely comments. We're so pleased you had a lovely visit with us.

Lovely few hours watching the seals
Spent a few hours here watching the seals and other animals. It was much bigger than I expected and we definitely got our steps in walking around the site. We got a delicious ice-cream which was good value and thought the ticket price was fair.
Thank you for your great review and supportive comments, we appreciate it.

    Enjoyable afternoon
Very knowledgeable friendly staff. No seal pups as out of pup season , but staff made you aware of this before entry to avoid any disappointment. Interesting talks on the residents of the sanctuary as to how they came to have their permanent homes there as the charities main focus is rehabilitation and return to the wild. Is in need of some upgrades but they are aware and currently fundraising to improve the facilities for their resident seals. We really enjoyed ourselves and would go again if in the area :)
Thank you for your lovely review, we genuinely appreciate it.

    Recommend to every one
Came from London to Cornwall and added this place as a stop on my adventures, I absolutely loved this place! There were no seal pups as it’s not seal pup season but staff made us aware of this so we weren’t disappointed! We paid £10 for the behind the scenes tour and got to feed the seals some ice fish treats which I’ve never done before so well worth the extra fee. Our tour guide was very knowledgable about the sanctuary’s residents and was full of stories and information. I would really recommend this place , the ticket price is affordable and valid for 12 months so you can return! Compared to other sanctuary’s/zoo’s I’ve been too where this place is smaller and them being a charity the experience feels alot more personal and theres a few feeds a day which the staff do talks for and a activities too. Managed to see the seals, Diego and penguins being fed twice! Very magical, the sanctuary could do with an upgrade but they are currently fundraising for ‘fund the future’ where they want to upgrade facilities and make them bigger. This place really does deserve our money as there’s so much to share from the sanctuary and so much to see! They do such amazing work and they are so deserving of the support. I don’t have any disabilities but throughout the day the cart was making loads of trips back and forth for people with mobility issues getting from the reception to the middle of the park which is great for people needing accessibility. Just a note the park is at the bottoms of a steep path way at the bottom of the parks estuary so abit of a walk back!
Thank you for your informative review. We love it when our guests love us!

More than just a fabulous attraction
I was last at the Gweek Seal Sanctuary in the early 1990s when, if my memory is not tricking me, it was really just a small series of concrete pools with a few grey seals in them and perhaps a ticket office. Even then I remember thoroughly enjoying my visit but it has changed massively in the interim - as far as I can see, in an entirely positive way. There are now many smart, substantial pools containing grey and common seals, as well as sealions and penguins. The animals are happy and well cared for, so they behave quite naturally and provide visitors a lively display of their aquatic prowess. The hilly terrain, as well as opening stunning views of the lush, surrounding landscape, gives the visitor a choice of viewing angles on several of the enclosures and, in fact one seal pool, the sealion and penguin pools all give the opportunity to view the underwater action through plate glass. Throughout the day, every half hour there is a talk and/or feeding session at one of the pools. This gives you the chance to learn more about the animals, their individual challenges and personalities as well as the important and compassionate work the sanctuary is engaged in. The keepers who give these talks are very clearly devoted to their work and the animals in their care. They are infectiously enthusiastic about their subject and keen to chat to visitors and answer questions. There are cafes both in the smart visitor facility at the sanctuary entrance and in the midst of the enclosures. These sell ice-creams, cold and hot drinks and snack lunches. We ate delicious locally baked Cornish Pasties and drank unusually tasty sodas also produced by a Cornish company. At the far end of the sanctuary, a lush and shady woodland walk leads you along a small creek to a pool, where introduced beavers have constructed a dam. We did not spot the beavers in the flesh (they are, after all, nocturnal beasts) but a live camera shows the interior of the dam, where they could be seen shuffling around. There is a nice gift shop with some quality items you can take away, notably a beer called Ray of Light, brewed in honour of Ray - one of the resident grey seals who is an amusing and endearing character. A top notch attraction with an admirable function, run by inspiring individuals. Heartfelt congratulations to all those involved.
Thank you so much for your supportive and informative review. We genuinely appreciate it. We hope to see you again (much sooner than between your last visits!).

    Good day
Good day out. Friendly staff. Not bad food Could do with a little more to do but we still enjoyed it. Great that you pay once and have 12 months to keep coming back that’s spot on. Well worth a visit and a great price that helps the seals 🦭. And a bonus you can return as much as you want.
Thank you for your review. We're pleased you had a good day out with us. We hope you attended the talks and feeds that run throughout the day.

Informative, picturesque and a must for animal lovers ! Only the fact that we arrived on the same day as the puffins first made their public appearance could put the icing on the cake to this perfect day out! Staff here obviously enjoy being part of this amazing sanctuary- we were told about the puffins even as we parked up! Put walking shoes on as far more extensive than expected. Easy to see the seals and wonderful to be able to read all about the individuals and their stories. Definitely a must visit!

Thank you for your review! Unfortunately, we lost our sealion last year so that pool is being renovated so it is suitable for our other residents. We have tried to make everyone aware of this through social media and signs up at the front desk so sorry if this was not clear. Our Penguin habitat which was being renovated is now home to rescued Puffins! Hopefully see you again soon!

Brilliant family day out! The staff were all very welcoming and the young man (Asa) doing the talk was very informative and humourous. The lady (Tara) doing the seal rescue was also brilliant and used great audience participation to keep the kids interested! Great value as you can use your pass for the year. A brilliant cause doing great work.

such an exciting morning out at the seal sanctuary! getting to see the baby seals to start off was absolutely fantastic. we particularly loved the names of the seals, timothee chalamet and jennifer aniston! we then saw a few talks and feedings and were pleased to make use of the back viewing spot away from the crowds and with a view of the overall area - one to definitely do if you can’t see what’s happening from the front!

making use of the nature trails is a must here, and what we loved was seeing bug hotels, information about beavers (though unfortunately didn’t see them that day), and enjoying the views of the Gweek river. it was a lovely way to make the most of the spring sun and relax between enjoying the seals in their enclosures.

on the whole, a fab morning that was thoroughly enjoyed! thank you!

We have been before in May 2022 and had a brilliant time and thought it was good value for money. This time however most of the food places were closed, the penguins were no longer there and the enclosure being refurbished and sadly the sealion passed away but it has been replaced with nothing.
We were done in an hour and that was even with a play on the park.
Some of the pools were also half full (assuming there is a reason for this) meaning the underwater viewing section was also pointless as they weren’t really swimming as much as last time.
I think if half of the attractions within the sanctuary are closed for refurbishment this really should be reflected in the price.
It’s a shame as I like to support the amazing charity work they do but it was a complete waste of money and I wouldn’t go back.

Sorry to read that you felt that the Sanctuary is not good value for money. Adult tickets are £15.99 when booked 2 days in advance, this also allows you to visit as many times as you wish for the whole year. As you may be aware it costs on average £2000 to rehabilitate a pup and we have 50-70 every year, not including additional costs for those that require operations and the care of our full time residents. Unfortunately, as you visited during our off-peak season there is a lot of work going on in preparation for our busy season. Regarding our empty enclosures, as a Sanctuary we cannot ‘replace’ animals that have passed, however there is work going on to make sure the pool is suitable for our other residents and we do have new residents joining us soon from another Sanctuary. We do take all of our feedback on board and are always looking for ways to improve our customer experience so thank you for leaving a review. We hope that you will visit us again!

Went in March and absolutely loved it! Saw them bringing in a rescue seal and they took such good care of it! We got to see the seals being fed and trained and we learnt lots about how they save the seals, it was an amazing experience and the staff were lovely!! Will definitely recommend to others!!

We visited with our two greyhounds and had a lovely visit.

Arrival was quick and efficient - although we knew we were coming off season we had pre booked and were given a map and the talk times. In season it would probably be very busy as even on a cold midweek day there were still a number of people.

Everywhere is dog friendly except the seal hospital and children's play area (except guide dogs). On this occasion there was one pup (called Joe) in the hospital and there was good information about him and why he was there. We then made our way around the main site, seeing the common seals and their feeding talk, the nursery, rocky shores and harbour to see the resident seals. There were also four pups in the rehabilitation pool. Each exhibit had good information about the resident seals which was nice to learn about.

The café is quite small and does have a selection of hot and cold food although when we visited at 12:45 they had unfortunately run out of all pasties and sausage rolls with a half hour wait for more, which was disappointing. There is outside, covered seating with approximately 15 tables.

We also visited the woodland areas and saw the beaver habitat and resident sheep and goats before heading out via the gift shop. Overall as two adults we spent about 3hrs at the sanctuary.

Thank you so much for your informative review! We are so glad you had a lovely time with your two dogs. Sorry that the cafe experience was disappointing, we try to have as little waste as possible at the end of the day and at this time of year it’s challenging to judge how busy we are going to be, especially midweek. Don’t forget tickets are valid for 12 months so we hope to see you again soon!

Absolutely beautiful parkland with the added value of educational element. Our niece wants to be a marine biologist (she's only 12) so it was a chance for us to learn a little bit more to talk to her about. Would love to bring her sometime (we're all from Canada so it may be a while!). Snacks are available - even a hearty lunch if you choose to stay longer. Well marked paths. Nice folks in the gift shop - which has a very wide range of items. Highly recommend.
