Yeah... meh... it was okay. Zin isn't our varietal, though the reviews sold it as exceptional zin, so we were open to it. Experience was nothing to wrote home about, and wine was mediocre as well. Info was sparse; no one seemed passionate about the offerings. Zero wow factor and almost depressive atmosphere in the room as far as guests, staff and space. We were in and out and on to the next.

Kathy was our very informative, enthusiastic, and kind host. We felt like we were learning from a true insider who knew her stuff and was happy to share her preferences.
The wines were fabulous and seemed an authentic reflection of what old-vine zins are supposed to be. Such quality and depth. Turley really is a must stop for those who want the full Paso Robles wine region experience.

Always enjoy our visit. Miguel was great! Learn something new with wine making. Look forward to is it again soon to pick up the fall release. If you like Zinfandel, this is a must stop when you are in Paso Robles.

My wife and I were in the Paso Robles area to wine taste in early April. We had not been to the area in quite a number of years, and hoped to visit a few wineries that we had not been to previously. Based on research, Turley emerged as one of the wineries we wanted to visit, and was our first destination on our first day. Armed with fresh palates and clear heads we headed into the tasting room.
My wife and I enjoy Zinfandels, more specifically the big, jammy, fruit-forward, unrestrained, food unfriendly (if you must) Zinfandels that seem to have fallen out of favor. We certainly found them at Turley, and I mean this as a complement. However, having been to Sonoma County multiple times and Amador County once within the past few months, there are other wineries in other wine-producing areas that produce equally big wines, and single-vineyard Zins at a somewhat more approachable price point. We ended up buying a bottle of the 2012 Pesenti ($40), and the 2013 Mead Ranch ($44). Turley apparently had acquired Karly Vineyards up in Amador County recently, and their screwcap 2012 Pokerville Barbera was very pleasant wine and a solid buy at $14. We also tasted two of their reserve Petite Sirahs, which were enjoyable, but again rather pricey. There were certainly wines at Turley that we liked. One of the things that we did not like from a wine perspective was that for a number of the wines the grapes were either not from the Paso Robles area, or grapes from many different viticultural regions were being blended. I don’t drive all the way to Paso Robles to drink wines made with Napa grapes. This may not bother others.
I started tasting wines and visiting wineries several decades ago. If tasting was complementary, as it often was back in those days, etiquette demanded that you bought at least one bottle whether you really enjoyed the wine or not. Over time, tasting fees were introduced, and I do not at all mind wineries that charge a reasonable tasting fee and/or limit the number of wines that you get to sample. I do get a little aggravated when tasting fees are high, the number of wines offered is small, and additional wines are offered but require additional tasting fees. It is what I expect in Napa, and one of the reasons I rarely wine taste in Napa anymore, even though it is only an hour from my home. Turley was offering four wines, pouring rather restrained pours, and charging $10 for the privilege. Yes, you got some cheese, and yes, you could take the Turley logo glass with you. Personally, I would rather pay for cheese if I decided I wanted it, and I have no need or urge to add a Turley glass to my wine-glass collection, and left it at the tasting room. I would much rather that the value of the cheese and the glass had been in the form of more substantive pours or optimally an opportunity to try a wider range of their wines. Two Petite Sirahs were available as well, for an additional $5 per single taste. Tasting room policy is to waive one tasting fee per two bottles purchased. This reminds me, in a negative way, of what has become in my view “the Napa experience”. In an area with many fine wineries, I think you can have a better tasting experience elsewhere, and Turley is not on the list of wineries I am likely to return to when I next visit the area. That said, if this type of business model does not bother you as much as it bothers me, I am confident that you will enjoy the wines at Turley. 3.5 stars if I could give that rating; we enjoyed the wines, but less so the tasting room experience and policies.

This winery is dedicated to old vine Zinfandels. I tried the Classic flight of 4 Zins. 1 blend from Sonoma, 1 vintage from Armadore county, and two locals. I preferred the locals, more character.

The gal in the tasting room seemed bothered that we were there and was not very nice. These folks do a good job with their wines, but there are a lot good wines on the central coast at wineries that are happy to see you.

Turley is one of our reliable (Red) Zinfandel producers, but first visit to tasting room. Steady traffic for a Thursday morning, well-staffed. Our server was well-informed. I noted that most of the wines are in the 15%+ alcohol category. Tough decision, but we purchased a Petite Sirah, Napa Valley, and a Zinfandel, Paso Robles.
Our Zinfandel is the Paper Street label: the grapes are grown at about 2000 feet elevation vs. 600-800 feet for many of their Zins. 100% Zinfandel. We found it compared favorably to the Juvenile and the Dusi Vineyard.
Tasting fee was waived as we met the minimum purchase requirement. Our server very kindly gave us a quality case box to use for our trip.
A worthwhile stop. While the wines aren't cheap, we would return.

Last tasting of a beautiful day. I've not been to this winery before. The Turley name was certainly familiar, both Larry for this winery and his sister Helen for her wines and projects as well.
The tasting room is, for me, a perfect size and is just beautiful. Very tasteful and not over the top. Despite it being later in the day and there being other groups already in the middle of tastings I was greeted immediately. The tastings are very reasonably priced with a $5 option and a $10 option - this is a true bargain compared to other Paso Robles wineries (one $40 option at Daou, for example).
I've never done a tasting of Turley Cellars wines and, given the name and the history, my expectations were pretty high. The wines and the experience actually exceeded those high expectations. I could not have been more pleased.
The 4 basic selections in the Classic Flight ($10) were all delicious. We all have different tastes, but I especially enjoyed the Estate Zin which was not the most expensive selection. Again, though...all delicious.
My surprise of the visit was the Petite Syrah which was added to the Classic Flight. I loved this wine, and at a $44 retail price it is very affordable. In the end, I took two bottles with me, ordered 6 for home delivery, and joined the wine club. Yes, I really enjoyed this visit.

This was by far the best winery we went to on our wine tasting trip. If you like Zinfandels, then this will be heaven for you! It can get pretty crowded so either go early or make friends! You can only buy Turley wine in the tasting room or through their email list. There is not wine club, just the email list - and that is first come, first serve when it comes to ordering so you aren't always guaranteed certain bottles if they sell out before you get your order in. You won't be disappointed if you go here!
