Almost everyone in Concord, California knows Monument Boulevard. And for visitors the question often arises, "what monument? Where's the monument?" Well, the monument of Monument Boulevard, is, nowadays, a bit removed from the boulevard itself. What happened is Highway 680. Back in the day, Monument...More

This old memorial sits at a large intersection in Pleasant Hill and seems totally out of place as, through many years, buildings and businesses have been built up around it -- which is actually part of its charm. Now and again there is talk of...More

Larger and more elaborate than you would expect to find in a town this size. Always glad to see my fellow vets honored.

Erected in 1927, The Soldiers Memorial Monument was erected to honor the 6,341 citizens, including 77 dead, of Contra Costa County who served WWI. Note that one of the four soldiers is a black man.

It's not worth the visit because of the traffic congestion and no accessibility. It was moved in the 1990's for highway construction.
