First time ever! Went after the sun set, but it was still beautiful.
It was awesome seeing so many families there.
I wasn’t sure when I went if it was safe there or not, but I never felt any danger. I felt very safe.
First, I think this place is magical. Simple, nothing fancy, but really cool to walk down.
Second, can’t go there without thinking of the final scene of the great 1993 movie “Falling Down” starring Michal Douglas.
Definitely worth a visit.
A lot was going on by the pier when we visited...a swimming race and a bike race, food trucks...but...there was still space for us to find quiet on the beach and watch the waves. Bathrooms were, well, available...standard beach bathrooms....wear your flip flops!
This place is full of true Sothern California living. Wide sandy beaches line both sides of the pier and the “Strand” is an awesome bike/walking path between the spectacular homes and the beach. Arrive early for choice parking and stay late for an ice cream...More

That's an interesting question. Much of it goes on what you're looking for. Manhattan Beach is a beautiful beach. It has large sand areas and beautiful waves. Santa Monica is also a beautiful beach with almost as large of sand areas. You won't see as many surfers here but you are extremely close to other fun things (Muscle Beach, Venice Beach, The Promenade Mall--a must!, the Boardwalk and great places to eat). I'm honestly more favorable towards Santa Monica because I live down the street and have spent a ton more time here. Either way, if it's just beach experience you're looking for, you'll have an awesome time. I hope you enjoy your visit!!
