If you are a tourist from out of town and you’ve heard of the famous Venice Boardwalk you might think it’s a glamorous beach with exciting people watching, kitschy shops, colorful decor, and a wild night life. All of this is true in a sense,...More

Venice Beach is of course worth a trip. But the long market lane is ruining the experience so stay off that track. It's extremely touristy and it's all a big hustler lane with so many shady and rowdy people on drugs trying to sell you...More

Venice has it going on. Lots of different walks of life, smokers, tokers, skaters, homeless, beggers, movie stars, musical acts, dog acts, dogs, couples, families, and on and on. It's a lot of fun and can go wrong fast if you're not paying attention. Keep...More

Living on the east coast, I've been to a number of commercialized boardwalks in Florida, New Jersey, Delaware, etc. Venice has some things in common with those -- cheesy gift shops, unhealthy fried snacks/pizza, ice cream joints and the odd decent-looking restaurant. What is unique...More

Recommended to see and feel like local. Souvenir shops are expensive. Snacks are good. Fruits are available.

Had seen pictures , glossaries and films of Venice Beach, but the reality is it's nowhere what I anticipated . So sorry to any one living there , I definitely wouldn't go there again .

Venice Beach is a great place if you’re into people watching, but the amount of homeless people and lack of cleanliness on the boardwalk in general is a bit off-putting. Go for a stroll during the day as the beach is great, but I wouldn’t...More

I am not quite sure what to make of this place. It was interesting to see, sort of funky but largely sad to see it has left a large swath of social destruction that reminded me of a Mad Max meets Heidi and Gilligan. An...More

We had high hopes that it would be trendy and fun, a bit of people (poser) watching and generally a great atmosphere..... What it is, is somewhere you get ripped off on parking, harassed by many guys trying to ‘give’ you their music cd’s. Tacky...More

Venice has always danced to its own beat as the
epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along
the boardwalk there are street performers and local
craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings,
souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of
visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting
enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders
do their tricks around the skate park. All of it

As to boardwalks in California, most are not the same as our East Coast boardwalks with their amusement parks (think Coney Island). The closest is Santa Cruz which has an old fashioned amusement park. Santa Monica is an open... More

December can be the coldest time of the year 60's - 70's but right now it is in the 80's! 9 - 5 is best and safest, after 5 best to stay near the pier of 3rd st.
