Great experience!!
Aug 2021
They told me ahead of time that it would take about an hour & a half to go through everything. We took about two and a half hours! It was great! I especially loved the little jelly fish that look like they're putting on a light show, & the seahorses!!

Learned a Few Things About Seahorses
Aug 2021
Visited here with my wife, brother & sister-in-law. Exhibits are well organized and in one area it provides examples of local water habitat along the west coast. Don't miss the interesting exhibits on Seahorses and seadragons. Ample parking. Sharks for the little ones. Their petting station had a couple unusual items. Trying to spot each of the highlighted fish in individual aquariums was challenging. The eels and coral reefs were particularly interesting.

Educational Aquarium but not much to see
Jul 2021
This is a small and very educative aquarium. It has some fish, bunch of urchins, and that is about it. The displays are nice and easy to easy and very good to teach kids. There is also a place where you can touch sea creatures, which is cool. However, there isn't much to see...that is why four stars. Birch Aquarium is a great place to teach kids, very educational. But not a lot to see. What there is a to see is the great view outside. The beach view is magnificent. Parking is relatively ok. Bathrooms are clean.

Birch Aquarium

Very enjoyable, educational, informative. Easy to locate and see exhibits. Enjoyable for the whole family. Not crowded, easy to see all exhibits and look out over the ocean.

Wonderful Afternoon at Birch Aquarium
Jun 2021 • Family
We had such a wonderful time at the Birch Aquarium. The exhibits are well kept, the facility was exceptionally clean and the view off the patio were breathtaking. The staff was friendly and well informed in the interactive tanks. Keep in mind this facility is associated with science education not entertainment so expect to learn a lot.

The Birch Aquarium In La Jolla Is A Beautiful And Informative Place For The Whole Family To Enjoy
Jun 2021
On a recent visit to La Jolla; we had a chance to experience the Birch Aquarium. The scenic setting was very welcoming and the three hours of complimentary parking ensured that we would have ample time to take in what was offered.

Upon arrival we were told that masking and spacing were still required despite recent changes in the state and there were aquatic-themed stickers lining our path; many with clever sayings to remind guests to stay with their group, space, and stay moving in one direction.

The first area was filled with Jellyfish, Eels, a Sea Turtle, and other fish and we were able to move from display to display and enjoy the variety that was on display. A larger room offered a very large viewing area complete with some Sharks and other fish and was a real highlight.

After we completed this area; we moved outside and were treated to a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean as well as some encounter areas where guests could touch a Sea Cucumber and other aquatic residents.  The staff was very helpful and answered questions and assisted those looking for a closer encounter.

Back inside we explored a fun area for children which was filled with aquatic facts in a Comic-Book style theme. There were numerous games, and graphics which were both educational and informative. A multi-screen theater showed a film on the Seas and there was also an informative display on Survival Gear.

Outside of this area, we were able to enjoy more Sharks as well as some tactile areas that let us experience Whale Bones and Shells up close which was highly informative.

We noticed there were classrooms on hand and I speculated that not only do school-children learn in this environment during trips, but that also that the organization uses this as part of their program as they had numerous facilities around the Aquarium.

While the dining area was not yet open during our early-morning visit; we did go to the Gift Shop and purchased some items and enjoyed knowing it helps fund the aquarium and conservation efforts.

While we were able to complete the experience in about an hour; we had a very enjoyable visit and would love to be able to bring our Granddaughter to experience all it has to offer.

Tickets are very affordable and there are also Memberships available for those who wish to make frequent visits.

The Aquarium also hosts various events during the year so you will want to make sure to visit.

Hi hum!
Jun 2021 • Family
Sort of costly and absolutely nothing riveting. Would have expected a far more comprehensive experience. Chicago Shedd Aquarium is far more exciting and beautiful. This was very amateurish. Very disappointing.

Beautiful location
Jun 2021 • Couples
A beautiful location overlooking the ocean. While smaller than many present day aquariums, the exhibits are well presented. Reservations are required and , at least in the weekend, seem to reach capacity so walk-ins are turned away. Free parking is available.

OK, but disappointingly small for $20.

Nice place, but REALLY small. I felt like I read about 80% of the wall print/information and I was in and out in under an hour. For $20 an adult, I don’t think that’s a good value, $10 maybe $13. Free parking though, that counts for something.

Great aquarium, especially for younger children
May 2021
We took our 12 year old to this aquarium for a morning. I appreciated having to pre-book and having an entrance time. There were social distance markers on the floor, but they were pretty much ignored, as was the one way flow of traffic. It is a great small aquarium with some hands-on activities.
