The top wooden boat show in the country, with majestic wooden boats displayed by proud owners for all to enjoy.

We attended the event this year at Obexers Maria (2015) and enjoyed the venue very much. The downside of holding it at Obexer's as compared to years past at Sierra Boat Co Marina, is few number of boats and the side docks at Obexer's have a lot more movement so it is very unsteady to get closer to the boats on display.

We try to get to this annual event in Carnelian Bay whenever we can. Worth the price of admission (somewhere in the neighborhood of $20 a ticket) if you LOVE wooden boats as much as we do! Chris Craft boats, mostly 1940's - 1950's vintage from all over come to show off their gorgeous boats! This event is usually held in early August and runs for a weekend, maybe longer. You are able to walk from dock to dock and check out the boats. Often times the owners are on board their boats and happy to share what they know. Its a very pretty place on Lake Tahoe and really makes you want to be out on the water. If you are lucky, you might get to see the GREAT Thunderbird yacht from the Thunderbird Lodge. Quite a back-story there! The Thunderbird yacht was built in 1936 by George Whittell, Jr.. One of the wealthiest families on the Lake way back when...worth investigating even further. We did tour his lodge and saw the boat again in the boathouse. Amazing!

We take our boat up to Tahoe for the summer and then never miss the Concours week. I never think I have a average boat until I have to pull up to the truly nice woodies here. If I could ever come without my wife I would be a few $$$ short when I returned.
