We had an ocean view campsite at South Carlsbad State beach for a week last summer. Our plan was to go to the beach 3-4 days then head to Legoland & the zoo in between. However, we must have been lulled by the waves crashing...More

Lifeguard stands for the strand of fine brown sand beach. I believe there was a bathroom by the parking. There was a steep walk down across 15 ft of river rock to get to the sand so shoes were needed. Water was too cold on...More

The overall beach area was beautiful. I stayed in one of the campgrounds overlooking the beach. It was $50 (less $2 for a senior discount). Its only $30 if you stay on the other side of the road not overlooking the ocean. The campsites were...More

We booked a hotel close to the beach and came here each morning for a walk. The best section is near the centre of Carlsbad, where you can walk for about 1 1/4 hour round trip. The sand is soft and somewhat groomed. There is...More

In general the area is fantastic, lots of places to eat and visit-everyone seemed really pleasant not the usual Cali push.

I would give it a five for the (usually) uncrowded, clean and quiet stretch between Carlsbad and Encinitas except trying to find a place to park can be and will be a challenge especiallly during tourist season. All you get is beautiful sand, beautiful water,...More

This is wonderful clean beach but gets very popular with surfers and camper vans. We had a brilliant walk although bracing and was eager to spot sealife, but sadly not this day. Recommnded.

This is a great place to stroll and people watch, and endless ocean, surf views. Can get congested in summers or decent weather- which means all the time. it is one of our luxuries to go when its rainy as that thins it out. A...More

My 89 year old dad had a desire to be on the sand and see the waves up close and personal. He has very limited mobility. The State Park has a special wheelchair with large wheels to allow access to the sand. The special chair...More
