The Church of the Fish and Loaves where Jesus fed the five-thousand. Outside the church is an ancient olive oil press. The olives are ground by the wheel rotated by man or beast creating a milky liquid that is set aside in jars for a few days for the oil to rise to the top and then the oil is then skimmed off for use. Inside the church the stone under the altar is the supposed spot Jesus stood for the multiplication of the fishes and loaves. (Matt 14; Mark 6; Luke 9; John 6) Next to the stone is a mosaic with two fish and a basket with bread. These mosaics as well as many more on the floor, are the original and amazing and worth the trip to this church.

Trailing the footsteps of Christ, we reached The Church of the Multiplication in Tabgha. It is ministered by the Egyptian Coptic Dominion. Jesus performed the miracle of the multiplication of loaves and fish in here. There is a rock slab below the church altar. During the multiplication, the fish and loaves were placed onto that rock.
A large crowd of followers was with Jesus and his disciples until nightfall. There was no food for the multitudes. Jesus performed the miracle of feeding 5000 people with only 2 fish and 5 loaves. Everyone ate and there were 12 baskets of reminders, as written in the New Testament.

I attended this tour virtually and was blown away by the beauty of this site. Our tour guide Amit shared historically knowledge about the site including agricultural facts that I didn't know. It was simply amazing and if you haven't seen the site, you must go!

What a wonderful site on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Photographers will find many subjects including the church itself, the shoreline, the walk down to the church, and the statue. We were on a pilgrimage, so my gear was a pocket camera. This was useful due to the hassle of schedule and crowds. All holy sites in Israel will be crowded and are popular. If taking pictures, be patient and learn to use people to add to the story of the photo.

With all the wonderful stops in the Holy Land, they can’t all be great. This one is kind of a ‘filler’ in my opinion. Supposedly where Jesus performed the miracle of the loaves and the fishes, they have a plaque on the ground by the altar where this occurred. Nice mosaics were the most interesting aspect of the relatively newer church.

We went in excursion from Haifa and we enjoyed the place. It's the place where Jesus multiplied the fishes and the loaves for the marriage. There's a church on the place and the altar reminds the multiplication. There's a beautiful mosaic inside the church as well to be seen. Very busy place, historically very important.

This is in an area on the north shore of the Sea of Galilee which is crammed with chapels, shrines and grander churches, celebrating each of the acts of Jesus recorded in the Nerw Terstament which happened in or around Capernaum, (and there were lots of them!). This is one of many of which, frankly; mostly disappear into a combined memory without especially standing out. Still worth visiting, though, along with as many of the others as you have time for.

The Church built by patriarch being destroyed by earthquake and replaced by this church after great efforts. There were ruins of old houses believed to be Peter's.There were places occupied by Jews. Also there were stones believed to be used by Jesus along with many household items of primitive ages.It was the place of Peter's mother -in-law. It witnessed many miracles of Jesus's time.Modern scientist's study reveals that even the rocks of the place can echo sound. There was big rock believed to be the place Jesus's appeared to Peter after resurrection and blessed .

This is a comparatively modern church which was built on the site which is generally held to be the location on the shores of Galilee where the miracle of the multiplication of 2 loaves and five fishes to feed five thousand occurred. It replaces earlier smaller structures dating back to the 4th century.
Under the altar is a block of limestone held by believers to be the table of The Lord.
An intricate mosaic floor again dating back to the 4th and 5th centuries has been beautifully preserved.
The interior of the church is indeed a wondrous sight.

Part of our holy land tour. We learned this church was burnt just a few days after we visited by crazy people. I hope they can fix it back. It is a simple church with beautiful mosaic of the fishes and loaves. I would recommend a visit.

I would like to send a small donation toward the restoration of the burned area of the church. What is the exact address of the church or place where I should send it, and will the pastor be able to convert American money into usable funds?
Written 19 June 2015
What a lovely idea! The money can be converted. I wouldn't know where to send it. I would research it online to be sure it gets into the right hands.
