We snorkeled together with my wife. It was first time for her. Everything went really easy with equipment and transportation (Harazaki-san picked us up and drove us back to our hotel for no extra charge). The snorkeling itself was great! We saw many tropical fish, a sea snake, sea turtles and more. Harazaki-san Took a number of nice photos and videos during the session. Would love to come back and do it again! Thanks!

This was my second time snorkeling, and the guide gave us a great explanation of how all the gear worked and should be worn, so I am much more comfortable in the water now. The wetsuits were buoyant, which was great. We got to see a turtle, which was definitely the highlight. The reefs in general were cool too. The guide took lots of photos of the group in the water and sent them to us later.

Afterwards, we got to have a shower and tea at his shop. That was such a kind service and really warmed me up after being in the water.

I recommend this place! It is easy to book and they are very responsive.

It’s super awesome diving shop! We joined the afternoon set, 1:30pm starts, enjoyed till 5pm. (Another group joined together).
We met a lot of beautiful fishes, awesome views at the bottom of ocean, and 2 sea turtles! It was super close swimming with sea turtles. It was so fun and I was excited!
The guide guy, Harazaki-san, is super good and unique, the conversation was fun! His hospitalization was great.
I recommends this shop! Enjoy your Yakushima trips!;)

We did long diving to see the fishes closely and snorkeling which will go more offshore and have higher possibility of encountering the sea turtles comparing to diving.
The instructor gave us advice on the best activity to chose from that will meet our needs and the best schedule to book according to the rise and fall of the tide which was very helpful.

It rained hard on the diving day and we were getting a bit worried since it was our first time diving, but he explained very honestly and through his years of experience in Yakushima. He was very reliable and we were able to enjoy and make the most out of it. He took a lot of good pictures for us to take home too.

He was also kind enough to recommend on what to do, where to eat where to stay and such. Thanks to this great guide, overall it was a very fun and memorable experience.

Amazing experience! Loved it!
The guide took his time to explain everything and let us practice before the actual diving.
Coral rifs were super beautiful. Fish was so colorful! Unfortunately couldn't see turtles, but the guide did his best to look for them, so no hard feelings, haha.
Great service! Super recommended!
Very cool.

We saw the sea turtle! What an amazing experience! The Coach was very kind and patient and taught the diving skills clearly, so you don’t have to worry about you can not do it well! And the coach will take pictures for you! The sea of Yakushima was very clean, you can see a lot of tropical fishes.

I dove for two days in a row with Mori-to-Umi, in early November.

This was my first visit to Yakushima, and was initially worried about the water temperature, but it turns out the average for that time of year is still ~25C. I tend to get cold, but between the hood and gloves that I brought, and the 5mm wetsuit I rented from Mori-to-Umi, the dives were plenty comfortable.

We dove in and around the Isso area on the North coast. The boat ride is very short. You fully gear up on the boat, then the captain starts the engines and you're at the dive site in < 5 mins.

The water was incredibly clear (the log says >50m). I've never seen that kind of visibility outside of the best days in Hawaii (I used to be an assistant dive instructor there). I understand that it can be less clear on seasons when the island isn't engulfed in the Kuroshio current, so it may be good to check on the seasonal variations of that when planning a trip. I saw lots of coral, a sea turtle, lots of colorful fish (some familiar from Hawaii, many new), and a WWII fighter plane engine that's been converted over the decades into a bustling sea life colony.

Shigeru was a great guide. He picked me up at the hotel (Tashiro Bekkan) around 8 am, and we'd be done diving and back at his shop by 2. I'd shower in the clean outdoor shower stalls at the shop, then we'd go over that day's dive spots and the footage that he shot, which he also gave me a copy of. I'd be back at the hotel before 5pm.

I would definitely use Mori-to-Umi again on my next Yakushima visit.

お世話になりました!

We had an awesome time diving with Shigeru today! We did a two boat dive at Isso beach. First dive to a nice section of reef with loads of colourful fish and a lion fish at the end. Our second dive was at Zero-sen Isso - a Japanese war plane that crashed into the harbour.

Shigeru says that his English is poor, but we had no troubles communicating and shared a few laughs throughout the day. So long as you know how to dive then you’ll be completely fine as an English speaker.

Shigeru is an excellent photographer and generously shared some of his photos with us at the end of the dive.

We would highly recommend Shigeru and his dive shop - absolutely excellent!

His English is enough to get what needs to be said communicated and he picked us up from our hotel! Rental gear was all in good condition as well. We did a shore dive and got to see lots of neat sea slugs, sea turtles, and beautiful fish! Great visibility as well. Our instructor had my boyfriend, who hadn’t dove before, crawl on the sea floor, but provided gloves and navigated along sandy it already dead areas of the coral. I really didn’t like that he wouldn’t let my boyfriend swim and he had to crawl, but he got to dive and I don’t think he did much damage to the reef. But the dive was really good! He took pictures of us and downloaded them straight to our phones!

Thanks so much for the other day! I am glad that you all had a good time. :) I am so shocked that you were worried about corals... But it's wonderful for you to have a concern for the environment! Thank you! 🙂 To be honest from my point, non-certified divers who join in "the diving for experience course" can't keep their neutral buoyancy themselves. (They can't control their buoyancy themselves, and they can't get this skill in a few hours.) And I'm afraid of their rapid ascent and descent caused by their inability to control their buoyancy. The rapid ascent injures a diver, their descent and kicking the bottom with their fin tips causes environmental destruction. (If they can't keep their neutral buoyancy, they tend to swim with their feet low, which makes it much easier to kick or stir up the bottom.) So I always make them to hold the bottom at the usual dive-spot for "the diving for experience course" very consciously. But also at that dive-spot for "fun diving" like that, I should have carried him in a hanging manner from start to finish that day... I hope we'll see each other again sometime.

My second time came to Yakushima for fun diving.Harazaki san,the owner of Mori to umi is energetic and funny,he knows almost marine creature around Yakushima island.I enjoyed diving with him so much.
If you like photography,I strongly recommend diving with Harazaki san.
The shop is located in forester,we wrote dive log with little birds singing and cutie Yakushima dog Sky-kun’s barking.(Extremely relaxed(*ˉ︶ˉ*))
Due to the condition of wind direction,we couldn’t entry Nagata area this time, however,I believe that I will come back soon.
