I like the fact that the first California State Capitol is in Benicia where I live. It is convenient for purchasing annual state park passes.

The rangers here are very knowledgeable. Ask for a tour of the historic Fischer-Hanlon house next door. These buildings provide a wonderful view into our state’s history and the rangers are quite passionate. Benicia is a charming walking town. Enjoyed our visit.

Go when the weather is warm and check to be sure it is open. We reviewed the grounds and were pleasantly surprised. Put this stop on your list.
