An terrific inexpensive exhibition of the amazing find. It is a shame that due to erosion you don't actually see the original cave paintings but a well produced replica. As you'd expect the place was busy with school groups but the centre staff are well...More

If you do, you'll be entered into a draw to see the original caves that day. We didn't win, but the real thing must make the recreated cave in the museum look pretty ordinary. If you don't come for this draw the museum itself is...More

Very popular exhibition to visit - there were quite a number of (well behaved) schoolchildren on the day of our visit which meant our visit to the 'cave' was delayed but there were plenty of other exhibits to keep us busy. After seeing the 'Finding...More

May 4 at 2:33 PM We were driving from Ribadesella to Bilbao and had to stop and see this Unesco site. The popularity was so dramatic that they had to close the caves because of the erosion and damage from so many visitors. They created...More

Very well set, beautiful place, very informative, small but very well set, they reproduce the cave as because they need to protect the original one. Lovely visit!

So, we humans breathe too much. We ruin the caves with our numbers and humidity and such. They have created a wonderful, lovable replica and lots of interpretation about the culture and archaeology. Lovely museum, being enjoyed by all sorts of tourists and school kids....More

They have apparently done a good job of replicating the paintings in the Altamira cave, but I didn't find it nearly as interesting as some of the other caves in the area where you can see the real thing. Nonetheless, since only a limited few...More

Nice museum that includes exact replica displays of the caves and cave art below. You are not allowed to enter the actual caves but the reproductions and historical detail still make this a stop. Its an easy walk from the village of Santillana del Mar...More
