This was a nightmare
Having done some research and Logan at all the nice pictures reading some of the recommendation we very much was looking forward to visit this beach
But a few surprises on the way it all started with the road leading down to the beach. You need strong nerves, it is very narrow and coming down to the hotel. Where are you not allowed to enter with the car unless you are a guest at the hotel you need to park in the nearby parking lot, and then you start a huge descent with very high steps, and if you are not physically fit, this would be a struggle
The hotel is rundown, not clean at all and the deckchair and pool area it’s not recommended. We even saw a dog pissing on one of the teachers which they charge €17 a day

According to my long experience, this is the most exclusive and beautiful place in Crete. If you want to enjoy endlessly swiming in the incredible sea, the most spectacular views ever, dedicated, smiling and kind staff, very rich buffets including show cooking for breakfast, as well freedom, peace and quiet or great shows ( belly dancers are fabulous) in the evening and don't mind being far away from the crowd and noise, on the contrary, this is the ideal place for you. If reviewers complained about some vintage aspects of the hotel, don't take any notice, if some a bit dated rooms, not high tec have indeed an old fashioned charm, they are kept spotless. This haven of beauty has been a dream for me, I can't wait to come back! Thanks again to Maria, Dedim, Georgia and Mohamed who is welcoming you at the restaurant, for making my stay so wonderful...Just be aware that the resort beach is paying and that you'd need a ( cheap ) taxi to go down to the village

I’m sure this place was amazing a decade or so age but it’s now tired and dirty. You have to park above the hotel complex and walk through it, past the accommodation and pools which are all in a dilapidated state.
All the waterside sun beds were taken when we arrived so we had to go up a level. The cushions on the sun beds were filthy and covered in stains. We stayed for about half an hour and left to find a cleaner and less crowded beach for the day. Give this place a miss, not worth the drive or walk.

My son loves to swim and he usually wants to go to natural pools, where seawater is calm and clear. Definitely, Kalypso beach was his favourite place in entire Crete. Spectacular place, not so crowded, beautiful views, but if the weather is windy, it is difficult to swim.

The best beach in Crete! My partner and I stumbled upon this hidden gem and we had the best time. The walk to the beach was amazing and we really enjoyed the lovely water and Mountain View. The snorkeling was really good too.

Beach bar Barbarossa( the only one on the beach) is a terrible place to be... Heated frech fries and not fresh made suvlaki, neglected bar, non intrested stuff... I give 2 points just because wather was beatufull for swimming. Also, reaching the beach is not easy, you need to make an effort becaouse of the steep stairs

Very disappointed! While the natural elements are stunningly beautiful the man made additions and beach accommodations are run-down and threadbare - a recent attempt to update the sun loungers with "astroturf" covers is frightful - the charming bridge connecting the fjord has not been replaced - so much potential lost! I would love to see some new owners come in and invest some style & effort to make this place the true gem it deserves to be....

Awful experience! Feeling sad and discussed of what they have made there! A very ugly, tacky/ chip resort which as a result they have destroy the natural habitat and beauty of the beach once had.
Its overcrowded. The whole resort looks like the made it in the 80s and hasn’t maintained well since then. Which is funny because the resort is very recently made. The stuff is super rude and actual bullies! I am not exaggerating by that! Every person (4-5 people) working there that I have encountered with, starting from the gate, made me feel so unwelcome and that my presence there was bothering them. The food is bad compared to what rest of the Crete island has to offer and great lack of hygiene in general.

Special and very beautiful beach! The umbrellas with the sunbeds are specific because it has shelters above but if you go early you will find them. The road had some bends but it is paved so it is easy to access. The difficult part is the climb to the parking lot which has some steps and with the sun in company it makes it difficult to get back to the car.
