The fact that this unremarkable swing bridge became the Number 1 sight in Malow on Tripadvisor seems proof enough that there is little to see. The town is known for its remarkable position on a small island connected to the mainland by a man-made earth causeway on the one side and this swing bridge on the other side. But this peculiarity is clearly a mixed blessing. For no other reason than to attract and please tourists, so it seems, the bridge deck sways to the side on the hour between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. from April to September and between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in October and November to give passage to boats. The result is repeated, lengthy traffic jams. Arriving by train from Waren in what we thought would be an idyllic little town by the water we found ourselves in the street leading to the bridge, which was blocked by a queue of cars waiting for the bridge to reopen. Quite absurd. The present swing bridge is not a historic bridge, it only dates from 1989-91 and was renovated in 2012-13. The former swing bridge was replaced by a new one because the swing bridge is the landmark of Malchow
We thought by far the best part of our trip to Malchow was the leisurely train ride from Waren (about half an hour) with a Hansa train operated by a friendly driver and our lunch at Rozendomizil.

Beautiful and stunning. Busy ish road past the hotel - a quaint shipping lane. The road opens up every hour for about 20 30 mins
