This review only covers that playground and restroom. Like so many things in Johannesburg, it has so much potential but falls short of expectations and acceptability. I am sure when the playground was built it was great and it is still okay. The biggest issue is safety. Much the the equipment has not been maintained and is therefore broken. The elements have taken their toll on a lot of the plastic parts of the equipment and they have broken. Metal parts like screws are missing and have not been replaced. There are several parts of the playground that I do not let my kids use because of these issues. Additionally, the ground surface of the playground has deteriorated and is buckling and/or collapsing across the entire playground. Additionally, there is a trash everywhere and the grounds crew does not clear off the leaves and grass clippings after mowing. Last, the restrooms have no toilet paper, soap, (and at least in the men's room, no toilet seats). If this playground was maintained properly, it would be my go-to playground for my kids but I think there are other playgrounds that are much safer and better maintained (just not in the Johannesburg park system).

Lovely big park but nothing spectacular about it. Safe enough during the day as there are many visitors but I would still not keenly go alone. No amenities, only seen one ablution block and there was no toilet paper or soap available so be sure to take your own. There is a spot for little ones - plastic slides and swings. It's a good get out for flat dwellers.

I go walking here nearly every day when I am in Johannesburg. It's not a huge park but big enough to find your own space. It gets really busy during the weekends with families and people walking dogs and mountain biking. It's surrounded by suburbs so may be tricky to get to unless you have a car or take a cab. There's a huge playground that is well maintained and a bird sanctuary in the centre. I think it's well worth a visit.

If you are looking for natural surroundings for your outdoor exercise then this park is perfect.
The residents spend many hours improving the park and love the park as the @cityofjohannesburg are bone idle. They have the budget but don’t maintain the park on a regular basis as laziness is their second name and I wonder where our rates go which are allocated to maintain it?
Despite the vagrants who mess up the park we still encourage everyone to use it it during daylight busy hours.
Various organizations have put in special cycling paths in order not to bother walkers.
The sunsets are glorious from there and it’s the best place to be for your walk. The police should take the vagrants to purpose built shelters!!

I did the parkrun at Delta Park, which could be considered the grail of parkruns in South Africa. The course is varied with hills and downhills, and changes whether it is done clockwise or anti-clockwise.

We lived in Craighall Park for over 40 forty years and came to know the park very well as a pleasant experience for dogs, children and adults. The entrance to the park by a new bridge from CP is a big improvement as also the tree planting program over the years. It is generally well maintained although water restrictions have taken their toll. Abuse by vehicle drivers occurs and could be stopped by the security patrols (a relatively recent positive). The water ways are generally fairly well maintained but this could be improved.A major asset enjoyed in safety by many.

A great place to walk the dogs, but better still book a show at Theater in the Park. Food and drink trucks are there for you

More than One year in johannesburg and no one i knew ever mentioned Delta park. I was so lucky i chanced upon some gorgeous clicks on instagram as i was looking for the autumn flowers called COSMOS to shoot for my blog. To my surprise i found them in the end of April when they were still in full bloom . They disappear completely by May end . It was one of the most picturesque parks and had beautiful walking and cycling trails, a pond, old casuarina trees and so much more! I felt safe here as it was full of people with their pet dogs or cycles between 3pm- 5.30 pm. The guards were helpful
too in directing me to the cosmos blooms. See attached pictures for how beautiful it looked. Its a perfect place for dreamy shoots in autumn ! ( Remember if you are not from the southern hemisphere autumn starts in March ) .

I've visited often. The most beautiful time to visit is during Cosmos flower season, usually around March into April depending on climate, rain, flowers. Lovely for photographic opportunities. Picnic area and playground for children but I avoided this area as I needed the peace and serenity. Would walk mostly on weekends when there are more visitors.
Perfect for individuals, families, dog walkers (please pick up your dog's poop), cyclists and runners. There are cycling trails.
The Sensory Garden is sadly neglected and unkempt but worth a visit just to read the instructions and hug a tree. Lessons to take anywhere in nature for those so inclined.

Delta Park is a wide open natural space in the heart of Johannesburg - great if you want to take your dog for a walk, ride your bike or just be out in the fresh air. There are a number of different paths one can take either in the grasslands or along the river. The best time to go is probably in the morning or early afternoon. I would not recommend walking in the evening for safety sake as there could be a problem with vagrants. There are a few coffee shops and restaurants dotted along the edges so one could also visit one of these and then stroll from there

Hi there
Are we allowed to take alcohol in?
thanks!
Written 22 August 2018
Johannesburg Parks has a no alcohol policy. I am not sure how effectively this is enforced but on their web page it clearly states that their parks are no alcohol areas.
Written 22 August 2018
I have never seen one but you can contact their offices and check. People regularly picnic though so I don't see why it would be a problem.
