Though enticing for its fine white sand and clear blue surf, there’s no swimming at this beach—at least not for humans. Foxy Beach is strictly reserved for African penguins.

third oldest settlement in South Africa, it constitutes the most important base of the South African Navy. At the Boulders Visitor Center (free parking, also with craft stalls and toilets), you can buy tickets to enter the protected area and go and admire the penguins, who walk on the white beach, swim in the sea, take shelter in their houses . There are walkways accessible to all that lead to Foxy Beach.
Outside the Visitor Center, continuing along the shaded road, you arrive at Boulders Beach, where you can go down to the beach, although here there is no guarantee of seeing the penguins, which in any case cannot be approached.
Cost: R176 adults and R88 children (card only)

Boulders/Foxy beach did not disappoint!
Even on a cold September morning, we saw hundreds and hundreds of these adorable little guys right up close and personal!
There is parking, there is a small entrance fee and then you are on your own to walk the boardwalks along this colony of penguins.
No need to take 1000 pictures of the first one you come across.. you are about to see SSOOO many :)
A couple of things:
-Be respectful and stay on the paths - do not touch the penguins.
-Yes, they smell strongly of fish and feces... they're wild animals. You get over it.
-You do not need to pay for a guide, but I'm sure you will learn much more than what the signs provide, if you choose to.
-We spent approximately 2-3 hrs there 'cause we couldn't get enough. They really are hilarious.
-Bring a jacket, it can be windy! Bring your camera too, of course.
-Good for all ages and not too physically demanding. The whole trail is on a wooden boardwalk.
There is an entrance area for 'swimming' near the Boulders entrance. This is where you can go to get off the boardwalk and get really close to the penguins if you like. One entrance fee is all you need in order to do both. But if you choose to do this, please be respectful and watch out for the blue bottle jelly fish that have washed up on the beach!
-Before you leave, check underneath your car for our little friends...they are everywhere!

The Boulders SAN Park is actually including both Foxy Beach and Boulders Beach and one has to pay to get access. Even though the colony is also known as The Boulders Beach Colony, the viewing platforms and most of the penguins are located at Foxy Beach. The wooden viewing walkways and decks at Foxy Beach provide excellent observation of the nests, activities and antics of the African Penguins.

I have nothing against this well managed facility indeed it snares so many tourists that the adjoining and publicly accessible beaches are largely ignored. I just head south for a couple of hundred metres and have my own private penguin encounter where I can swim with them if the water is warm enough.

There are two ways to get to Foxy beach, some people swim over from nearby Simon's Town which is probably not really permitted or enter via the National Park Entrance and expect to pay 45 rand per adult. Access to the beach is wooden walkways over the beach habitat, you will find information boards and excellent views of the Penguins who are either digging sand holes or sun bathing. Potentially 20-30 minutes should be put aside for this attraction, it does get crowded though.

I don’t know the answer to that. This beach does not allow swimming, but it is a great spot for penguin watching and a terrific stroll.

Walked up and down the beach for about one hour and really enjoyed the rocks and small boulders all around. We even get to see a few penguins walking and swimming around.

Penguins live in Africa, so called jackass penguin type is found here.
50 minutes ride from cape Town, worth for couple of hours to see the penguin, not much else to do.

This is the end of the beach nearest the ticket office and is the area where the penguins nest, so no access is allowed on the beach. Well made walkways take you down near the water’s edge and loads of opportunity for penguin viewing. Quite pricey entrance fee at R152 for non SA residents which allows you access to Boulder’s beach as well. Lots of craft stalls by the car park and there was a choir singing when we were there. Stopped in Seaforth restaurant fir a drink and a snack with stunning views over the bay

Great place to spot lots of penguins. Actually this is the crowded area - there were no penguins on Boulder's beach side at all when we walked there.
Entrance fee covers both Foxy beach and Boulders beach.
I recommend you to start from foxy - more parking spots and closer to the main road of Simon's town.
