It is very easy to loose track of time while wondering around the Naval Museum, there is loads to look at and learn about!
I would definitely recommend taking a family outing to this museum!

History beautifully preserved

We really were so impressed with this gorgeous museum. My husband did his military service in the South African Navy in Simonstown in 1972 and it was such a trip down memory lane for him to go back and visit in 2021. The exhibits are stunning and there is so much to learn and view. The place is impeccably kept and well preserved. We spent virtually the whole morning there and loved every minute. Definitely worth a visit. Highly recommend.

What a stunning museum! I thoroughly enjoyed my meander through this museum. Exhibits are clear and concise, taking you on a journey through the various ages of the SA Navy. I was so captivated, before I knew it I had spent almost 3 hours in the various exhibits!!!

Loved the Air raid shelter!!

Most impressive. A fascinating insight into both the naval and social history of South Africa. Exhibits range from the days of Nelson right up until the present. You can easily while away 2 to three hours here. And it’s free! All they ask is for a donation.
The staff we met were exceptionally knowledgeable helpful and professional. Can’t rate this place highly enough.

Well worth visiting this museum with an exhibition spanning from the age of sailing ships to modern day. The museum is housed in an old rigging shed and has a lot interesting pieces on show.

Fascinating Museum on Different Aspects of the Navy over the Years
Oct 2019
Very extensive museum with a multitude of exhibits that will be of interest to everyone - young and old.
Deceptively large.
The items displayed cover many different aspects of the Navy over a large period of time.
The chapel is well worth a visit as well.

As an Ex RN this museum was a must. Managed to park on the roadside adjacent to the entrance (2 hrs free). Entry is down a stone stairway into refurbished dockyard buildings. You decide how much to donate as an entrance fee. I paid on the way out.
A sentry/guide offers a route to take and you wander round at your own pace.
Mostly static displays of equipment covering each branch of the Naval Service and in chronological order.
A climb up the steep wooden steps to the bell tower is rewarded by thick beams daubed with ships names painted onto them by sailors long gone.
The large chapel reminds us that there are always victims in the services and many of them are remembered here. Great nostalgia.
